Merged: Andy Phillips in AAA/Picking Up Where He Left Off
Just saw this :"Andy Phillips, in his first game with the Columbus Clippers, went 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs in a 12-3 victory over the visiting Durham Bulls on Tuesday night at Cooper Stadium."

And Cano went 2-5 with a double and 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's and is hitting .375.
I cant wait for these guys to start playing for the Yanks....they better not get traded!!!! We need youth and these guys are beggin' to play!

Re: Andy Phillips in AAA
Again, there is no room on this team for Phillips and if he was tradeable, he would have been gone a long time ago. However, I do agree that Cano is an exciting young prospect. I don't think that he is going anywhere.

Re: Andy Phillips in AAA
I trade Cano for nothing less than a good, young, established CFer and I really hope he doesnt go anywhere. I would like to see more of Phillips though and maybe give him and Cano a shot before seasons end.
I'm too smooth you'll never see me comin', I'm never in a hurry I'm just movin' fast...

Re: Andy Phillips in AAA
I wish there was a place for Phillips, but unless Tino or Giambi gets hurt, there is nowhere for Andy on the Big League roster.

i kinda hope tino pulls a hammy in mid season, so we can get phillips up here for 15 games or so.

This guy has been ready for the majors since last year. Lets call him up back to the Yankees and send Rey Sanchez down or a reliever.

I fail to see how Phillips is a worse bullpen option than some of the guys at the bottom. He can fill two roles.

You know what's funny if Andy was in the lineup i would bat him in front of a lot of these hitters in the lineup.

Re: FYI: Andy Phillips picking up where he left off
Phillips and Cano could hit like .800 down in AAA....and we still wouldnt call them up

Re: FYI: Andy Phillips picking up where he left off
it really is a shame too, especially with a lot of dead weight on this team. if they were called up and did play maybe some of their youthfull energy would rub off on the others

Re: FYI: Andy Phillips picking up where he left off
I just don't understand it....Andy hits 36 homers last year and 25 homers the year before that at the AAA level....What else does he have to do?

He could always buy out Giambi's contract.

Re: FYI: Andy Phillips picking up where he left off
If he's called up he would rot on the bench. Torre isn't going to play him over Tino or Giambi or A-Rod. Really, I'd rather see him at least active in Columbus. Phillips will only be up in case of an injury.
As for Cano, I think another AAA season will do him good.
Here's to you, Mr. Robinson. Jesus loves you more than you Cano.

Re: FYI: Andy Phillips picking up where he left off
What caliber of a prospect is Andy Phillips? Nick Johnson-type? Better or worse?

Well I thought it went without saying that we don't want him called up just to ride the bench.

Unfortunately, the chances are much greater that Phillips and Cano will be traded than be future Yankees.

Sierra left tonights game with elbow stiffness. i don't know how serious it is but if he goes on the DL, Phillips will be back and will probably get some ABs. Bernie also left the game with a sore knee. We could use another bench player.

Re: Merged: Andy Phillips in AAA/Picking Up Where He Left Off
Unless one of them gets DL'd, this is no biggie. They face a lefty tomorrow (Chacin), who is tough, but don't see another until the 27th (Washburn). Even if they DL'd either one, its unlikely Phillips would arrive in time or condition to be useful tomorrow.

Tino and Giambi can hold down DH/1B until then. If Bernie needs a longer rest, Crosby gets a few starts.
