Cell Phones and Coverage - What Doesn't Suck?
I'm dipping my big toe into the cell phone pool again tomorrow. Just curious if there are any other forumers who live in the Bay Area and can offer some opinions on what they have?
Right now I'm leaning towards either Verizon or ATT. I prefer ATT only because I like their phones better.

Re: Cell Phones and Coverage - What Doesn't Suck?
AT&T (really, Cingular)...I've had them for 5 years and I wouldn't use anyone else.
EDIT: Oops sorry! I don't live in the Bay Area.

Re: Cell Phones and Coverage - What Doesn't Suck?
I noticed it's more in the phone than the service.
Especially around here
My phone sucks as far as picking up a signal goes.
I have friends with much cheaper phones who could talk underwater in a lead box 498790 miles from the nearest antennaVin Diesel wipes with 40 grit sandpaper.

Verizon, while a bit more money that Cingular/ATT, has by far the best coverage and reliability.

Re: Cell Phones and Coverage - What Doesn't Suck?
I heard a couple of weeks ago that Cingular had the most consumer complaints and Verizon had the least.
I'm on Long Island, so my personal choice probably doesn't matter, but I'll tell anyway.
I've been happy with T-Mobile these last 2+ years, both the phones and the service.

I wanted to do Tmobile, but it appears they don't even cover the city I'm in. I like the phones and Cathrine Zeta Jones.

I used to live up in the bay area, and Sprint was by far the best quality. Not the best coverage, but quality. I believe Cingular has the best coverage in all of California - but what good is coverage if you can't hear what people are saying?

Verizon. No doubt about it.

I have had AT&T (Now Cingular) since I have had a cellphone and not once have I had signal problems.
As for the Verizon thing. MY friend (who has that) and I were in Cheesecake Factory one night and she needed to make a call. She had absolutely no signal and I had a full onewww.myspace.com/tabbycat31

I've heard from a number of people that cheesecake fumes really interfere with Verizon signals.

Re: Cell Phones and Coverage - What Doesn't Suck?
Okay folks - done deal. I went with Cingular/ATT. It seemed it really was a toss up between them and Verizon, so I went with a different network than my fiancee (I figure I'd rather have a different carrier incase one goes down).
So far I have to say I am mightily impressed with Cingular's coverage in my immediate area. The calls sound crystal clear and no dead zones. We'll see what the rest of the week brings when I travel a bit.

Re: Cell Phones and Coverage - What Doesn't Suck?
I was with Cingular for six months and dealt with a lot of signal problems. Between that and their horrible "customer service" and "technical support", I was very glad when I didn't have to pay another dime to those bastards, even though it meant I had to break my contract. I didn't care if my unused minutes rolled over and multiplied from now until the end of time, and I wouldn't go back to Cingular unless they paid me $60 a month.
I am now a very satisfied pay-as-you-go Verizon Wireless customer. And I also keep my unused minutes from month to month (they don't expire after a year like Cingular). Basically everything but the discount on the phone, all for half the monthly charges.Dieting isn't a piece of cake.

Re: Cell Phones and Coverage - What Doesn't Suck?
I know it is too late now for you but for others who read this thread looking for cell phone advice.
The difference in coverage in most major metro areas will be minimal overall (they all have their dead spots). A really impotant consideration is that Cingular, Verizon and Sprint (I think) let you call other subscribers on their network without using plan minutes. So if you have a lot of friends/family on one provider you can end up saving a lot of money by picking that one.I want A-Rod to succeed, but when he doesn't come through I'm gonna BOOOOOOOOOO
