Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
I think Willie will want to go eat that Subway sandwich in peace, away from the camera's glare. This bad start could bury them in the division before May!
Oh man....

The Mets definitely aren't poor, they're just not very good.

Aaron Heilman, NYM
Horacio Ramirez, Atl
Pedro Martinez, NYM
John Smoltz, Atl
Andy Pettitte, Hou
Tom Glavine, NYM
The Mets next three pitching matchups. Not horrible, but no gimmies either.
They are underdogs (-155) today, would figure to be favorites tomorrow, but probably dogs again on Monday.

And so far, not very well managed, either.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
Don't look now but the Mets starter just gave up a grand slam.

A David Wright muff loads the bases in the second, and Brian Jordan hits a grand salami.
Has a manager ever been fired before the home opener?

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
This Heilman fellow does have potential but is very inconsistent. He'll be back in AAA before we know it.

The Mets problem has their bullpen. Their closer Braden Looper hasn't pitched an out yet.
It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.

Note that our old pal Heredia just got out of trouble.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
Heredia looks about 20 pounds heavier in that Mets uniform. And keep in mind that he got out of trouble by allowing a hard-hit single, only to have the Braves runner thrown out at home.

It's so much better watching the Run Fairy™ pitch for another team.
And seeing Heredia pitch to Mondesi gave me a chuckle.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
I've been flipping channels. Why is Looper in when the Mets are down by three?
Does he just need work?

After five games they're four games back from the Braves.

Well they pulled one out today. The bats finally woke up and gave Willie his first win. Now they will probably lose 2 out of 3 to the Astros.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
Pedro had to pitch a complete game to lock down the win. How many of those you think he had in him? Poor Mets with no bullpen... they'll be giving us Cameron for Stanton by the All-Star break.

Pedro's arm looks great in his first 2 starts. Look for him to throw up a mid 2 ERA this year w/ 250-300 K's.....

Congrats to Willie on win number one. I hope we sweep them during the Subway Series.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
I went to the game in Atlanta on Friday. 3-1 Braves victory with Thomson and Zambrano dueling it out.
Victor had a rough first where he gave up 2 due to walks, then settled down.
Piazza hit a bomb deep to Left Center, but I left unimpressed with their lineup. Reyes is going to have a banner year at short. He was slapping the ball all over. Great in the leadoff.
Beltran was a Braves killer last year with Houston, but did nothing impressive Friday. (His HR yesterday was a bit different).
To me Piazza is the only one that looks like he is in form. Every ball he hit was smashed. But come on, Cliff Floyd in the 5 hole...
, I don't think he even made contact the whole night.
If their pitching doesn't keep them in it, they could be in a lot of trouble. Willie definitely has his hands full."A Humble Man of Grace and Dignity. A Captain Who Led by Example. I can't say yes, but it also isn't a very realistic question to begin with.
