Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
Bullpen just gave up a grand slam in the 8th inning. Not a terrible performance by the SP, too. And the hit parade continues. I don't know whether to cry for Willie or laugh cause they are the Mets.
They are a flawed, flawed team.

As much as the Mets were crowing about Martinez and the bats, the relief corp was the question mark. Still its only two games .

I think Yankee fans should kinda lay low with taking shots at the Mets relief situation for right now. Just sayin.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
Why? Except for Mo going through a rough patch (like every other closer in baseball so far), our bullpen has been dominant.

Mets fans can crow all they want. If we whoop and holler, we're called arrogant, then they turn around and do the very same thing. Must be "do onto others as I will do to you" time.

You realize that the Yankees are also having bullpen problems, right?

Juan Rincon + Joe Nathan = Best set-up/closer combo in MLB.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
Joe Nathan needs to close a big game before you start putting that type of label on him.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
Right now, Nathan is part of the best bullpen combination in MLB, 'Big Game' or not. (Btw, he has pitched 'Big Games' well before; see last year's ALDS against NY)

And to think some Mets fans were saying how they were going to win 90+ games this year.
“I mean, people knew that Brown was out there, and that Randy was ornery all the time. And Pavano is whoever he is. But if you’re their manager, you can’t go out and write about them like that.”

Joe Nathan 2004 ALDS:

Ok numbers I guess. Not great; he lost a game probably by the managers fault of keeping him in too long. I don't think you can like the 1 BB per Inning
Is Juan Rincon 10.80 ERA in the ALDS part of the best combo in baseball?
Please do not bring up the 2004 ALDS because they did not get the job done.
Not saying they are bad, actually I think they are very good in the regular season. I just would not go as far as to say they are the best until they prove to me they can get the job done in the big spots.
Would you rather have Nathan/Rincon over any combo with the following closers? K-Rod, Rivera, Foulke, Lidge, Gagne?

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
They need to improve the bullpen. They are going to lose a lot of games for them. They have good pretty good starters and a nice mix of young/veteran players in the lineup but that bullpen might keep them hovering around .500

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
Yeah, I have a friend who believes that. I think the Mets will win 86 and look good until a couple weeks after the AS break. I hope they over achieve.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
The Mess (no typo) look lousy but Tom Gordon looked crappy, too, the other day and Felix Rodriguez became almost instantly unhinged so modesty is probably reasonable at this point.

I wonder what Fred Wilpuss is doin' with the bullpen...
It's not the 27 World Championships that drive the New York Yankees. It's the 28th.
Every year is The Year. Go Yankees.

Re: Oh, the poor, poor Mets....
They're a great combo, but I think there are others that are comparable or better. Rivera and Gordon, for one. Not taking anything away from that combo, though-they're definately excellent. I just don't feel they're the best.
