Strawberry to be a Mets ST Instructor
Last summer, Darryl Strawberry said that he would not work in baseball again. Looks like he has had a change of heart. I hope this works out for him and that being back in the baseball environment does not bring back old habits.

Re: Strawberry to be a Mets ST Instructor
Interestingly, most of his troubles hit the front pages in early spring. Apparently a major stressor in his drug-and-drinking binges came when spring training arrived, and it reminded him that he was not going, and of his wasted power and potential. So he would get depressed and drink harder. He badly missed New York once he left, and apparently regretted going to LA. However, he was not too happy when playing the game...never really adjusting to the spotlight. I guess he's supposed to do for young Mets what he was supposed to do for the Yankees...tell rookies and minor leaguers not to follow in his footsteps. I hope he does okay, but I don't think he'll last too long. The other thing that amazes me about Straw is why Charisse has stayed by his side...through the jail terms, drugs, and especially the adultery.

There's a very funny joke in here somewhere...but I'm not feeling creative today so I'll let someone else hit this softball out of the park.

I like the Strawman. I hope he's gotten over his problems and is able to help out these young players.

This is kind of like standing at a slot machine and saying "this time I'm hitting the jackpot!" I like Straw, but there just doesn't seem to be a wagon out there that can hold him.

Last year I was cleaning out my closet and I found my Strawberry #39 Yankee tshirt in a pile. It made me laugh out loud that I actually bought it.

It's nice to see Straw come back home. He never should have left.
