AFC Division Playoffs: Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots

AFC Division Playoffs: #3 Indianapolis Colts vs. #2 New England Patriots

The Colts analysis: Peyton Manning and his boys go into Gilette Stadium, Foxboro, to clash with the Pats. Bill Bellicheck has kept Manning in check the last 5 meetings. Now, without Ty Law, Manning and his weapons on offense (Edgerrin James, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, and Brandon Stokley) can pick the injured Pats secondary apart if Peyton gets time. On defense, they need to shut down Corey Dillon and get in Tom Brady's face especially Dwight Freeney.

The Patriots analysis: The Pats are at home in Foxboro. They're in the snow. The key for the Pats offense to be successful is Dillon. If Dillon can slow down the Colts pass rush, Tom Brady can hurt the Colts. On defense, the Pats don't have CB Ty Law to help them. And with a banged up secondary, the Pats pass rush really needs to put the pressure on Manning.

The Verdict: If Peyton Manning can lead the Colts through the snow and keep Brady on the sidelines, the Colts are home with the W. If Tom Brady and the Pats can keep the score close, the Pats can edge the Colts. This should be a nailbiter.

    Colts 27, Patriots 21.

If the Colts score 27 points, the Pats will win. The Pats can outscore the Colts, I don't see how they can control Manning, their chance is to outscore them. I'd be thrilled to keep them to 27, if they do, as I say, I like the Pats chances to score at least 30.

I wonder what the line will be. I'm guessing NE -6.

It can't be more than 3, probably go lower as the week goes on.

You're probably right, actually. If it does end up being 3...going with NE.

I'm going with all four road teams in these games, which would probably be a first, but that's my pick. In this one, I think the Colts are running on all cylinders, and while the NE Defense will do a better job of holding them down then Denver did, the Colts will be able to score enough to win the game. The absence of Ty Law will hurt the Patriots very much in this one, I think.

Colts. Manning will have a big game. No Ty Law really hurts the Pats.

Colts defense needs to step up though.

Re: AFC Division Playoffs: Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots

I'm the only person to vote for the Pats so far? That's odd.

Oh, I did some old fashioned research and found this nugget:

Manning vs Belichick outside of the Dome (includes games when Bill was with Jets) 131-243 (54%), 6 TD, 14 INT, 1426 YDS (238 per game) and a 55.7 Rating. Ouch. Also, the Colts averaged 14.8 PPG, compared to the 29.3 their defense allowed. Manning is 1-5 in those games (the lone win was against the Jets in 1999)

I'll take the defending champs, even without Law. I assume, despite various reports, the Patriot Offense will actually get to play. The Colts D has no answer for Corey Dillon. The Pats O will have their say.

The Colts will win this game. It will be close but the Colts and Peyton Manning will finally beat the Pats.

    I'm shocked at this pick.

The Pats vs Colts game is outside! This is something Peyton hasn't had too much experience with this. Ty Law was a big loss, but the Pats have been playing a lot without Law. Peyton just can't figure out Belichick. Dillion is too strong and too good for that tissue soft defense. Plus, what's the status of MLB Morris? The Colts have an AMAZING offense and no defense. The Pats have an above average offense and average defense (now, without Poole, Law, Seymour?)

It'll be close for a minute, but then the Colts will embarass the Pats.

The player to watch, IMO, is Willie McGinest. Willie will make a big play. The last time they played, Willie made a very key play in the final minutes. Everyone remembers how Vanderjagt missed a tying-FG, but not many remember that Manning was sacked the play before by Willie, and the loss of yards hurt their chances at tying the game.

I picked the Pats, but I certainly wouldn't mind an upset by the Colts.

aside from the match-up, which obviously is the same, this is eerily similar to last year. People handing the game to the Colts because of their high powered offense.....meanwhile, the Pats sit back, and wait for Sunday to come.

Playing at home, and in a dome is such a huge advantage to the Colts. I really don't think you can compare it to when they have to play outside. They are a different team outside.

am I nervous about Law not playing?? Sure, but we've been playing without him for over two months now. And as S2 stated before, the New England offense will actually get to play, and is more than capable then scoring some points.

I look forward to a great game. The anticipation throughout the week is going to be insane. And to think that I have Monday off makes it all the better.

Manning’s having a career year, both of NE’s corners will be out… I’m going to say Colts 35-21.

You mean the Patriots have an offense? I thought only the Colts had an offense.

    I'm going with:

    Pats 27
    Colts 20

And hoping to see a lot of the "Peyton Manning Face".

Also, what's all this about snow? Is snow in the forecast for Sunday?

Nothing makes me happier in football then seeing Peyton Manning confused and frustrated by the defense that Bill Belichick comes up with. I loved seeing him cry and moan (like another stat-monster QB who could never win the big game) about the defensive pressure that was perfectly legal. Sure it's bad that Ty Law won't be there, but did anyone really think he would have another 3 picks in the game (remember he had more catches then Marvin Harrison)? Nope. Somebody will step up and contain the Colts enough for the Pats to win.

I dont see how the Pats stop the Colts passing attack with the likes of Earthwind Moreland and Troy Brown having to cover those dynamic WR's and TE's...this will finally be the year Manning overcomes the Pats

I will say this...if the Pats win and Belichick devises a way to stop Manning (taking into consideration how depleted the Pats defense...especially the secondary is) then you can put him in the HOF RIGHT NOW...thats how impressive of a job it would be this time around for him to slow down that offense

but I just dont see how that depleted secondary contains Harrison/Stokley/Wayne/Clark/Pollard
