I have to ask - do you know how he got that nickname? I have an image of a guy carrying around his own personal fly swatter.

2 more nicknames I've always enjoyed....

    El Gaupo - Rich Garces

The Human Rain Delay - Mike Hargrove

Re: The Best Nicknames In The World of Baseball

The most unusual nickname I've ever seen belonged to a player in the 19th century named Charlie Pabor who was nicknamed "The Old Woman In The Red Cap." Try hanging that one on a player today.

    Great thread.
There is no "I" in "team" but there is a dismembered and mixed-up "me."

Funny you should mention "Louisiana Lightning". It just brought to mind our own Ron Guidry, who back in the good old daze was also nicknamed "Gator" and "Ragin' Cajun"

I remember Dick Stuart as a reasonably decent fielder. I always thought Dr Strangeglove was Marvelous Marv Throneberry. Am I wrong once again??

Maybe Marvelous is Doctor Strangeglove like Mr. Stuart is.

    Dave,

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. Was Stuart Dr Strangeglove??

Loved "El Brujo" for Ramiro Mendoza...the witch doctor!

Also always liked the Big Unit.
