XM Vs. Sirius
Ok-- I need some feedback here. I'm trying to decide between the two services. What do you have and why do you like or dislike it? Sirius is gonna have Stern on it. XM has the new baseball package. Those two are about the jist of what I know besides tons of stations for all types of music/entertainment and news stations, commercial free.
Sway me please...

I hear Sirius has kick ass NFL coverage.
XM also has Opie & Anthony in case you care.
Also XM is completely commercial free while Sirius isn't.
That makes some difference to me.
I don't have either but the single most important factor for me would be who has the best equipment.

Re: XM Vs. Sirius
I picked XM for a couple of reasons, money and money. The subscription service is cheaper and the adapter was less expensive. The channels are basically the same type with the exception of the special services offered. As you mentioned XM will have MLB, they also have some NCAA basketball. There are some regional DJ's that you will need to pay an extra fee for, check out www.xmradio.com to see who they are.Originally posted by FoulkeLore

Sirius obviously will have Stern so if you are a fan you should choose that. However, I would expect XM to counter program something similar to try and attract viewers of the same ilk. Personally I think Stern is overrated and a bore so it doesn't bother me one bit.
I purchased an XM Roadie for $120 with a rebate for the home adapter valued at $20. It actually was easy for me to install the antennae, it's just a magnet that sets on top of the roof of the car

I'm leaning towards XM, but am wondering if the market can sustain two satellite services? Will XM and or Sirius be around for the long haul?

I can see one company being bought out by the other at some point.Originally posted by Ct.Fan

I have XM and I love it. I chose it mainly for Opie & Anthony. The units are resonable and seem to be cheaper/better/smaller then the Sirius units. Now that they will have MLB on next year i'm really happy. Sure it's nice to have football, but what will you use more, 16 sundays or 180 days and nights? On top of that XM is all commercial free and $2 cheaper per month.
Plus Howard signed what many are calling an albatross contract that will keep them from signing anything else because they have so much money tied to Howard.
Definately go with XM.
-
11-10-04 11:17 AM #7Most of Howard's contract is incentive based, most of the money kicks in when they reach a certain number of subscribers so its not really that much of an albatross because if they hit the kicker totals they will be raking it in. I'm going to go with Sirius for the NFL package and Stern.Originally posted by RhodyYanksFan

11-10-04 01:17 PM #16That begs a question: how does the XM deal effect standard MLB radio contracts (if at all)? Will they still be simulcast as always, or are there any exclusivity issues with the new satellite deal?Originally posted by GoRocket

I just want to make sure the Yanks still gets simulcast down here in Tampa on their regular radio station....

I'm pretty sure XM just added a NPR station. Also, there are very few "premium" channels on XM though Opie and Anthony I believe is an extra-pay channel.Originally posted by FormerlyKnownAsMHHL

Both companies are very similar when it comes to the music channels so if you're primarily interested in getting satellite radio to listen to a wide variety of commerical-free music I don't think you can go wrong with either one. If there are other things you are interested in I think you need to decide which of the "extras" appeal to you most. I got XM because they have the Nascar channels. They also have pretty expansive traffic channels and now the baseball deal. So for me XM has worked out perfectly. For a Stern fan they might want to go with Sirius. But there are a lot of people who have both services so they don't miss out on anything.

Sirius having all the NFL games hasn't changed NFL simulcast at all, so i would assume it's no different.

I don't know if XM has NPR, but they do have Bob Edwards now who for thirty years was host of NPR's Morning Edition before being kicked out the door.
