12-09-04 11:09 PM #27There is no possible way we could get Oliver Perez from Pittsburgh. Just as Minnesota isn't going to trade Santana, Cleveland isn't going to trade Sabathia, and every other team with a good, cheap, young starting pitcher is going to hold on to him.Originally posted by Agent007
What if the Yankees offered Vazquez, money, and perhaps something else for Oliver Perez rather than for Randy Johnson. Both are lefties, and Oliver Perez could end up anchoring the Yankee staff for years.
I realize Randy is better now, but Oliver Perez would be an incredible acquisition. I wanted them to grab him before this season, but now his value has gone through the roof.

umm, why would Pittsburgh be willing to do that?

I just figure that if you send enough money with Vazquez to make the prices similar, and then added players/prospects to make up the difference in value, maybe they would. You are probably right that there probably isn't a way to do so.Originally posted by cubswin

So, the price difference is essentially Vazquez's ENTIRE SALARY. Perez makes $300K. Even then, Perez can be controlled for 4-5 years, Vazquez for 3. Perez put up better numbers this year than Vazquez ever has. And finally, the Yankees don't have anyone close enough to a blue chip prospect to interest the pirates. They also have no position players at the MLB level that would be of a good price/performance value to make sense for the Pirates (maybe Matsui, but he's not going anywhere).Originally posted by Agent007

Oliver Perez might be the most unavailable pitcher (excluding no-trade clause guys) in baseball. If he were available, there are probably 25 teams that could and would make better offers. Why drag up a month-old thread to play "hope trading"?

NO guy will agree to that
I've been keeping an eye on this guy as well. Legit is the word.
The Pirates famously had Big Poison and Little Poison, Paul and Lloyd Waner in the '20s and '30s.
'course, RJ and OP aren't brothers, and RJ looks more like somebody's crazy uncle.

Oliver Perez's stuff is so filthy. Whenever he pitches I always try to watch or listen. Put that guy on a better team and he can consistently win 20. He'll break the bank when he becomes a FA.

Why the hostility? In my last post, I already agreed that it would probably not be feasible due to a salary difference. However, I did not know Perez's actual salary, so I was not sure how different far off it really is. Now that you have indicated his true salary, I agree it is virtually impossible to do.
Why can't you just share your opinion without the attitude? This website asks people not to post new threads when there is already a thread on the topic. So I "drag up a month-old thread". If you have such a problem with the topic, ignore it. It is not like I have posted a bunch of threads with ludricrous trades. I just found this website, so I missed last month's discussion.

instead of wondering who we should take from other teams the yanks need to work harder to find the oliver perez's and satana's themselves and make moves to acquire and develop them. once the yanks stabilize the 2005 situation, i want to see them find and develop players like this instead of going out and trying to acquire talent in this way.
