Best prospect traded away?
Who do you feel is the best prospect we have traded away in the last 10 years? I think it's Mike Lowell, but we now have A-rod so thats not really that big of a loss!!!
If the numbers were right i'd bet on the weather.

That A-Rod is now the 3Bman is irrelevant. The Yanks should have received more value for Lowell.

More Monday morning quarterbacking
The Yankees received three #1 pitching prospects for Lowell. It is not their fault that none worked out. The best of the bunch, Todd Noel couldn't stay healthy. The trade looked great at the time it was made.

Wrong day, dude. I was against the trade at the time it was made. I wouldn't have re-signed Brosius.Originally posted by GrouchoNYY

Last year or so I would've unequivicably said Eric Milton.
Maybe also Lowell or Guzman.
But today I'm getting inclined to possibly add Jake Westbrook to the list. The guy looks like he might be one of those late bloomer types.

We have enough youth.

I'd have to say that Westbrook, Claussen or Zach Day would make a nice # 5 starter right now.

I know we didn't sign him, but when I remember that Prior was there and we lost him it makes me real mad

How great would it of been to have signed Prior when we drafted him out of HS!!
If the numbers were right i'd bet on the weather.

Buhner or Lowell maybe
I didn't know we even had a chance with Prior, but why wasn't he signed in to the minors...its not like it costs that muchCrush it with your mind vice.

The Buhner trade was awful, but the Yankees acquired him from Pittsburgh as a minor leaguer, so technically, he wasn't a Yankee prospect.Originally posted by Evil Empire

Not lost in a trade but, Mark Prior. Imagine having him at the front of the rotation this year.

05-14-04 01:33 PM #17Claussen continues to struggle in the minors. Gave up 9 ER in 4 innings last night. His ERA is over 6. I'm not convinced Claussen would of helped at all this year.Originally posted by CHIYANKEE

Hands down Lowell. What were we thinking? Don't tell me Scott Brosious because Lowell still had options or could have DH'ed till Brosious was useless.

depends on how far back you go. Doug Drabek was a pretty big loss. Buhner. McGriff. Willie McGee.

05-17-04 09:13 PM #21They were thinking of getting two highly regarded pitching prospects that wound up being busts. Should've stood firm in their demand of A.J. Burnett. Alas, hindsight is 20/20...Originally posted by Donnybaseball72

Lowell unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer and wound up missing the 1999 season. It would have been a non-issue with Brosius and Lowell...

Similarly his ERA+, except for his three starts last season, is also unimpressive:

Leiter was traded 15 years ago, but that to me was the worst in recent memory. We got Jesse Barfield in return who for the most part stunk it up."We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction. Unlike the Yankees, he chose not to go the extra distance for his fans in Boston. It is understandable, but wrong that he would try to deflect the accountability for his mistakes on to others and to a system for which he voted in favor. It is time to get on with life and forget the sour grapes."
