Ramiro Mendoza '04
Will be interesting to see if Mendoza can turn it around this year. If so, obviously, he'd be a huge unexpected plus in the Sox pen.
Just 1 game / 1inning, but it was good to see him pitch effectively today (1 seeing eye single - on a ground ball - then a K and a double play).

Double-play inducing sinkers were this guy's bread and butter. If he can get it together, the kind of versatility he offers (especially w/ runners in scoring position) is very useful.

Didn't you know that Mendoza still bleeds Yankee pinstripes and will do anything in his power to make sure the Yanks take it all???Originally posted by cubswin

At least that's been the rumor in Beantown!

And it's true! I think the Sox are just scared to use him at this point. They didn't use him in tonights game and it looked like he was the last resort.Originally posted by Dooley Womack

At least that's been the rumor in Beantown!“I mean, people knew that Brown was out there, and that Randy was ornery all the time. And Pavano is whoever he is. But if you’re their manager, you can’t go out and write about them like that.”

Well, he does have a lot to prove at this point. But Jones should make it easier for him to start get some innings. And if he has just a few decent outings in arow, I could see him getting regular work.

Mendoza has had two problems: durability and poor conditioning, which are obviously related. If he has increased his off season workout regime, and is not overused, he may have a chance to be decent. If not, his effectivness will be temporary.
