How Danny Ainge is killing the Boston Celtics

As a Celts fan, I am disgusted with Ainge has done to the most successful team in NBA history.

Who knows whether or not what he's doing will work or not, but from talking to a guy who's in the know, who's on the "inside", just be patient and wait. As you probably know, the Celtics had no chance this year, and probably wouldnt have had a chance in the next few years with how stacked the West is right now. By making the Davis trade, they got rid of two players they would not have resigned next year b/c of salary (williams and battie), and brown, who they thought was a great athelete, but not a great bball player. Ainge wants to save some money, get some young players (Welsch, etc...), and draft smart. They weren't going anywhere this year, so why not save some money and take your chances at a good draft pick. Imagine what a big player like Okafor could do for this team. He'll probably go before the Celts can get him, but ya never know. He'll be a great player in the NBA, and within a year or two, probably one of the best centers in the East (if he's in the East). Regardless of whether they can get Okafor or not...if they draft smart, Ainge can turn around this team fairly fast, and in a few years, the Celtics will be back atop the East. B/c let's face it, the Celtics weren't getting out of the East this year, and they definitely would not have gotten past whoever came out of the West.

    I'm a Celtics fan...

Two men wrecked this franchise. Neither is Ainge.

    Rick Pittino and Chris Wallace.

The basis of the Ainge bashing comes from the faulty assumption that Walker was a player a team can build around. Walker's biggest flaw is that he never learned to play with his back to the basket. His game was facing the basket. That means two things. You must be a lights-out shooter which Walker isn't. And, you must be able to beat guys off the dribble. That's difficult to do when you're heavy and are beginning to lose a step. That said, it was no secret that Walker wanted a maximum contract. Ainge would have been crazy to give him that. Dallas won't -you watch. According to the Boston Globe, allowing Walker to play out his current contract would provide only nominal cap relief. Therefore, Ainge felt that he should have gotten something for Walker. That something could be Jiri Welsch. We'll see. As for Pittino and Wallace, take away the bad trades, idiotic FA signings, putrid drafts, and clueless cap management, and you have a golden age. I'd rather root for ping pong balls then have meaningless playoff appearences. The Nets dominated the Celtics in the 2002 East finals. Had the Celtics played the Lakers in the NBA finals that year, the average margin of defeat for the Celts might have been 25-30 points in a four-game Laker sweep.

Do I think Ainge is wonderful, not really, especially if he sticks with Marcus Banks who stinks IMO. A point guard that can't hit open jumpers is as useful as ear muffs in Florida. But Ainge didn't wreck the Celtics. They were already wrecked.

    One more thing...

The Celtics ceased being relevant ever since they lost to Detroit in the Eastern Conference finals in 1988.

BTW Pitino has lots of friends in the media. They will get their digs on Ainge to make Rick look good and to get people to forget what a failure he was in Boston.

What's ironic, I'm a PC Friars fan and I have an autographed hard cover of "Born to Coach". How times change.
