No surprise. Clemens and that phony Pettitte had this planned all along. It looks like he will be wearing an Astro or Blue Jay cap in the HoF.

I see no reason to fret over this. Let's wish him well and move on.

Good, whatever, put him in the HOF as an Astro, then.

I can't wait to see how he response to hitting in the NL. I would not be surprised if he is hit by a few pitchers. Especially those that play in Queens.

Let Roger do whatever he wants to do - he's served the Yankees well, got the rings he so desperately desired, and his place in the starting rotation has been filled without any expected loss of ability. Wish him well and wish Vazquez and Brown better, no need to be one of those bitter fans who quickly turns on their former players, especially a 41 year-old pitcher.

For years, everyone -- especially the Boston writers -- talked about how Roger Clemens didn't have a home.
While it was true that the Boston fans hated him, and while it was true that he wasn't in Toronto long enough to be considered a Blue Jay, I felt that the Yankee fans had forgotten about his Red Sox past and accepted him as a true Yankee.
But now, if he signs a deal with the Astros, all of that love the he got from the Yankee fans is gone. He really will be a player without a team.
He better go on to play four more years with the Astros, and bring them a pennant, because that's the only way that he'll ever be able to accepted by a team.
Either that, or those two years in Canada had to have been really special, because no one else wants him.
Despite what the writers and Boston fans said, he really did have a home and a family with the Yankees.
But now he's thrown that all out the window.
He better go in as a Blue Jay, make a deal with the Astros, or go in with a blank cap.
Or, go crawling back to the BoSox, saying how much he hates the Yankees, because that's the only way they'll ever accept him.
But he can't go in as a Yankee.
He had it all and he threw it away.
Oh, and by the way, if he really does sign, I hope that he goes 5-24 with a 6.49 ERA and no one can ever say that he was one of the few who went out on top.

And you wonder why Red Sox fans showed animosity to Clemens after he left.
The HOF will determine his hat. I'm afraid it will be the one with a "B" on it.
-
01-07-04 04:24 PM #16I never wondered. The Red Sox fans are bitter losers who would rather cry in their chowder than sympathize with Clemens for being run out of town by a foolish and vindictive ownership which pronounced him washed-up.Originally posted by NDBoston

I agree with NDBoston. He did play with them the longest and the Hall will probably say he should go in with that hat.
But I also agree that he did get run out of town by an assclown who claimed he was in the "twlight of his career" up in Boston.

01-07-04 04:29 PM #22No he's not, the money is deferred at George's request. He has already delivered all the services he was paid for. The way I look at it, he wasn't in our 2005 plans so let him go. Do I wish he'd stay retired? Of course, but it's not a huge deal to me.Originally posted by Michaels07

I totally agree with DiMaggio5CF. We accepted him as a true Yankee despite his BloSux past, and now this? Hey, Roger, :finger2:, you jerk.

Edit: Have fun with Benedict Pettitte and enjoy being a big loser.

I never realized that Roger grew up in Toronto.
It's all ancient history though, but it's par for course for Roger.

Duquette didn't want him back, what was Clemens supposed to do?
