Nomar to the Angels instead of LA? May happen after trade

Angels may be a player for Nomar

It seems the White Sox can't do much of anything these days without irritating everyone they come in contact with, be it season-ticket holders, players and - especially - major-league general managers.
But this feud with former White Sox exec and current Dodger GM Dan Evans is getting a little out of hand.
If you didn't know better, you'd swear Sox GM Kenny Williams is doing everything he can to get in the way of Evans' pursuit of offense this winter.
Major-league baseball sources we spoke to Wednesday suggested that Williams wants Nomar Garciaparra in exchange for Magglio Ordonez at least in part so he can deal Garciaparra to L.A. He could then hold up Evans and force him to take Paul Konerko and the $16 million he's owed over the next two years.
That's not going to happen.
Meanwhile, there was talk Wednesday in Anaheim that the Angels have discussed with Williams a deal that could send Garciaparra to Anaheim for Jarrod Washburn and Troy Percival, or two other Angels relievers.
Talk about really sticking it to the Dodgers.
But even if Williams gets for Ordonez the four pitchers whose names have been in rumors for the last month, it could work out nicely for the White Sox.
First, they'd get reliever Scott Williamson from Boston. Then, they might be able to get from the Dodgers lefty starter Odalis Perez, who's solid though rarely spectacular, terrific reliever Guillermo Mota, who has closer stuff, and the second best prospect in the Los Angeles organization, pitcher Greg Miller, who's a year away from the majors.
If Evans says "enough is enough'' and tells Williams he can stick Garciaparra in his lineup, it would make an Ordonez-for-Garciaparra deal a losing proposition for the White Sox if they can't unload Garciaparra elsewhere.
While still a very good player, and a huge upgrade from Jose Valentin, Garciaparra hasn't been the same on offense or defense since a wrist injury in 2001.
On the other hand, fan-favorite Ordonez - despite a somewhat soft year - can still become one of the game's best players.
If this happens - and it's contingent upon the Alex Rodriguez deal going through - keeping Garciaparra wouldn't address the Sox' need for pitching, and it would leave Williams holding the bag on another potential free agent who doesn't want to be here and has no intention of staying beyond next season.
The part of this you can't pin on Williams is the annual need to replace six or eight departed players because the Sox can't pay them.
Fiscal responsibility is one thing, but every winter Williams is forced to scramble and gamble to find pitching help, not to mention position players.
It's extremely aggravating to watch every off-season, and Sox fans are just plain worn out from having to see the Sox change their identity and their plan every 12 months.Saturday MLB on FOX blackouts - If you don't know how to spoof your IP address, you are missing out on the fun.

The only way I could see Anaheim doing this is if they could work out a long term deal with Nomar first.Originally posted by knickfan23

Washburn is a left-handed flyball pitcher who gives up TONS of bombs to right-handers. I'd love seeing him in Fenway.

The last thing I want to see is Percival saving games in Boston.Meanwhile, there was talk Wednesday in Anaheim that the Angels have discussed with Williams a deal that could send Garciaparra to Anaheim for Jarrod Washburn and Troy Percival, or two other Angels relievers. [/B]

Foulke would be the closer since they forked over all that money to him.Originally posted by Hitman23

Percival is getting old and battled injuries last season. I still wouldn't want to see him with the Sox but if he goes with Washburn it wouldn't be too bad because Washburn is a disaster waiting to happen at Fenway.

Anyone know a site where you can find out where all the former FA's have signed so far?
Global Warming and climate change hysteria could well represent the historical pinnacle of collective insanity.

Good Lord - this deal seems to be multiplying by the hour! Before
it's all over, the Yankees could be the only team NOT involved....
which is not necessarily a bad thing.September 28, 2008 - the day the HOF got a wake-up Moose call.
