How dumb is the new seattle GM?
Seattle had a perfectly good SS in Carlos Guillen.. If they really wanted to upgrade SS that badly Nomar Garciapara is apparently avalable and will only cost $4 1/2 mil more then Vizquel next year.

1. Ibanez
2. Spiezio
3. Trading Guillen for Vizquel
And Gillick wanted Boone last year, I feel sorry for the Mariner fans...actually I don't.
Goodbye Gravy, Nash and Olson. You'll be missed.

Visquel does help secure their defense up the middle...
How many years does he have left on his contract?

I thought I heard the Indians also get a draft pick? Either way, I think the Indians got the better of this deal. Guillen is more then ample at the position, cheaper, and younger.

Dumb, dumb move. The M's seem to be making "moves" just for the heck of it--signing Spiezio, trading Colbrunn for McCracken, and now Guillen for Vizquel. I DO like the Ibanez signing.
BTW, ESPN called the Randy Johnson trade back in '98 a trade deadline steal for the Mariners because they picked up Guillen, Halama, and Freddy Garcia. And for a year or so, it looked like a steal. But now Halama and Guillen are both gone, and Garcia is erratic.
I still think it is a fine trade for Seattle, but Doyle Alexander for John Smoltz--THAT'S a trade deadline steal.
