    Who replaces Selig?

In the past several months there has been constant talk that Bud Selig should be replaced because he is inept and can't seem to make the right decisons that would satisfy both the owners and the players. If that's the case then I would like to know who you think would do a better job as commisioner of baseball. This could be an interesting topic if all of you gave it serious thought and came up with some good candidates. I, for one, have had a hard time coming up with another David Stern or Pete Rozelle.

Well, in the interest of fairness, after nearly a decade of rule by a small market owner, it's time the torch be passed to a big market owner: The Boss for Comish!

I wonder if it was coincidence that the last year of the new CBA (2006) is also the last year on Selig's contract?

    At the present time

Baseball does not have a Commissioner. It has a COMMISSAR.

You might be right, but I'd still like to know who you think should be the commisioner or is it an impossible job to fill under the present setup of major league baseball.

Sixty one it`s a tough call. I would not pick a Politican, nor an egghead, nor a Knucklehead.Someone who knows the game from a owners and a players perspective. Who could that be? At the present time i can only think of Cal Ripken, he does own a minor league team in the NYP short Season League, the Aberdeen franchise.

Ripkin would be a good choice if he were older and had a little more experience. However, I think he is still too close to the players and would have difficulty being impartial. I have to do some more thinking about thisbefore I come up with a solution but someone LIKE Colin Powell may not be a bad choice if he wasn't already involved in something called a war of terriorism!

I think a monkey could replace Selig and do his job.

A monkey would probably re-instate Pete Rose too, and allow him in the HOF where he belongs.

Please...not Ripken! MLB would have to change the job title from "commisioner" to "king."

The Pets.Com Sock Puppet has been out of work for a while. Im sure he is much better qualified than Bud Selig. And a much cheerier
    personality

You don't want a player as a commish. No matter how much time has passed, he will always be a former player. You want a businessman (or woman) who knows how to negotiate contracts and deal with unions. Players don't negotiate contracts, thats what they have agents for. You also don't want a player like Ripken who spent his whole career with the O's, since anytime he makes a decision in favor of the O's, there'd be complaints of impropriety, or he'd go so far in the other direction to appear impartial that he'd hurt the O's.

I'd want someone like Lee Iacocca or Gen Schwartzkopf, with a strong, outgoing personality that has a good public image. (Or Colin Powell, as someone mentioned). No Trumps or Gates'.

You certainly would not want Ripken
    The first thing he would do would change the name of the sport from Major League baseball to Cal Ripken Baseball;

Each team would have to be named after him as well

Anheim Ripkens, Baltimore Cal Ripkens, Boston Ripkens, etc.

The biggest egomaniac should not be commissioner.

Somebody do a Search and find out.

Bet he's off fishing somewhere with no interest in MLB.

His run together call of Bucky Dent's homer in '78 against the Blow Sox is a classic: "...itsahomerun!".

Bill White was a good announcer and league president. But again...no former players as commish!

Let ALF be the commish! He's so good with Mike Piazza in those telephone collect commercials. Besides he would work for cats to eat!

On a serious note, let an ex-player be the commish. The owners had their chance with Selig and almost ran the game into the ground, although some say they did ruin it.
