Baylor canned in Chicago
Well, the Cubs decided to try and right the ship by firing Don Baylor..
Of course you need to make changes sometimes, but if your team has had only 3 years of above .500 ball in the last 10(!!) years under 4 managers, might the real problem lie elseware?
Perhaps a new front office? I'd like to see them figure out that they sell out all the time at home and have a huge TV contract as big sources of revenue might be able to spend a bit more getting some talent. Real protection for Sosa. A better middle relief corps.
Sad to see such a great potential wasted.
Its not how much money you have, its how you spend it!

It was inevitable and another result of recycling managers between teams. Baylor really hasn't shown much as a manager but I wouldn't be surprised if he resurfaces with another club.
Who is next?

They really are in a rut, but with the front office making the deals that they have -- and more to come-- I don't think the players and fans would go for firing the manager. They have publicly stated they are asking the fans to look to the 2004 season. Aren't you glad we are Yankee fans.Originally posted by JDPNYY
I'd guess Charlie Manuel.
My guesses on the next to go are:
1. Larry Bowa -- due to poor performance
2. Bobby Valentine -- to take the "news" away from the real NY team.
3. Jerry Narron should go, but recently signed a new contract. Big mistake.

i don't care who manages.. i want a slugger on that team to hit behind sammy!! someone serious!

If the Cubs could pick up bonds.. i think i'd be pleased. Then finally Sosa could get some adequate protection

My money's on Bobby V. too, along with Steve Phillips who deserves to be fired even more. I'd also love to see Chris Chambliss finally getting a chance to manage in the big league.
However, Wilpon's a cheapo and hates eating expensive contracts.
