Hoyt goes nine as Yanks crush Anaheim
MLB is running their sim season, and so am I...
I am running the 1927 Yankees vs todays league. I'll post some of the games here so as to have something else to talk about...
Sat. Nov 24th, Anaheim California.
Behind the strong pitching of Waite Hoyt (18-1) the New York Yankees crushed the Anaheim Angels by a score of 10-0. The Angels were hanging tough until the Yankees bats woke up fueled by Lou Gehrigs 2 mammoth HR's !!. His first, a 472 ft blast, sailed deep into the left centerfield stands. Waite Hoyt pitched a brilliant 4 hit shutout striking out 2 and walking none. Gehrig also hit a 459 ft HR in the seventh inning. Tony Lazzeri, the Yanks 2nd bagger added two HR's of his own with right Fielder Babe Ruth and 3rd bagger Joe Dugan each adding one. Left fielder Bob Meusel came close to an inside the park home run but was chased back to 3rd base on a strong throw from the Angel center fielder...
The Angels mounted a threat early in the game when, in the second inning left Fielder Darin Erstad led off with a triple. But Hoyt then fanned the next batter, got Scott Spiezio to pop up weakly to Combs in shallow center, and got the inning ending ground out to Koenig at short...
Here is my starting 9 and pitching staff...

I thought that Waite Hoyt was a RP (supposedly the best closer of all times), not an SP. Was he a utility pitcher?

.... uuhhhhh... **thud** (sound of me hitting the floor
)
Waite Hoyt was a great starting pitcher for 21 years !! Started with the Giants in 1918 and went to Boston the next year. Went to the Yankees in '21 - 1930 winning 22 games in 1926 and 23 in 1927 ...
He was 157 and 98 for the Yankees ..."Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president" ~ Theodore Roosevelt

What program are you using to do the simulation? Or is there a website that does this? I have an idea of running an all-time playoff series (better than SimSeries) of my own.

I was thinking of Hoyt Wilhelm, a HOF RP.Dr King (1929-68): A dream is forgotten unless others carry on.

11-27-01 06:52 AM #10I'm playing with Microsoft Baseball. I edited the present Yankees team and created the 1927 Yankees. So I'm playing against the computer and I'll tell ya, I've seen the computer pull some pretty "shifty" things on me...Originally posted by 1TonHumanHamsterWheel

Per the URL in my sig, there was a "draft" thread and once I saw "Hoyt", I remembered someone had chosen the RP as his pick, who, along w/Rollie Fingers, are the only HOF firemen out there.Originally posted by Gehrig
One to many instances of a Hoyt...
Now I'll be crawling back into my batcave until later on, Gehrig.
