    Bud Selig 2014 farewell tour

Memo to MLB teams: Don't put away all the "farewell" banners and party supplies you used when Mariano Rivera came to town in 2013. You're going to need 'em in 2014. Commissioner Bud Selig — set to retire next January, for real this time — says he wants to have a "farewell tour" of his own. Selig told ESPN's Jayson Stark that he wants to meet with the Average Joes and Janes who make stadiums run, and the fans who enjoy the games:

"I want to talk to season-ticket holders and fans," he said. "I've got a lot of people to thank. I like that," Selig said. "I like talking to people. And ... that's what I want to do: [speak to] season-ticket holders, people who work at ballparks. I just like to walk around and talk to people. I love that. I did that when I ran the Brewers. And I enjoyed it. I miss that.
No, this isn't from The Onion.

Setting up a cart on River Ave stocked with rotten vegetables the night his tour hits YS seems like a sound business model.

A fitting present: A lithograph of a Cardinals player and a Cubs player doping up in the same trainer's room as Selig looks the other way...

What a joke. He's on a high after this Arod business and doesn't realize that no one sees him as a savior of the sport. I really hope the MLBPA files their lawsuits and ruins this.

Just to play devils advocate for a moment. Is it possible that he was just stating his plan for himself? It doesn't sound like he was asking for 30 teams to have a presentation ceremony for him but rather that he intends to go to every ballpark and randomly speak to fans.

He may as well do it this year before he has to pay regular ticket prices.

Is there any way, on God's green earth, that we can champion a huge bus and run this... this... floating toilet pretzel of a man over?

Sure, and I think most of us think that a typical baseball fan has fairly limited interest in speaking with Bud Selig, other than perhaps sharing something less than warm fuzzies.

If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

Wow. Is it just me or is bud as big of a primadonna and egomaniac as arod? He wants to be loved? You dont achedule your own farewell tour. Ppl do it FOR u. The minute u request it is the minute u dont deserve it. Mo didnt say "hey everyone, gimme a farewell tour". All he said is "this is my last year" and teams lined up for the privilege of giving him a farewell.

    Geez bud is nuts!

He's way overdue in leaving - after making a joke out of PEDs and now proclaiming his legacy to "cleaning it all up." What a jackass.

Especially when he's not even going to be able to do anything to change baseball any more.
