Report: Yankees/Red Sox "pushing hard" to trade for Matt Kemp

    http://www.latinopost.com/articles/1...on-red-sox.htm

Thought this was important enough that it deserved its own thread. I would think this would take us out of the Cano sweepstakes if we went through with this.

The risk of trading Kemp and his 6 years $128M contract is even higher than handing out a 8 years $200M deal to Cano.

I'm not so sure he's a good target. He seems to be too fragile to live up to that contract.
    Boo for trading Prado.

Only if they eat a chunk of his contract.

An ESPN report suggested a blockbuster trade between the Yankees and the Dodgers, which will see Kemp playing for the Pinstripes in exchange for former CY Young Award winner CC Sabathia.
report as in baseless speculation, just throwing an idea out there, or something with actual legs?

anyone have a link to it?

I posted this a few days ago in the off-season thread. It was just an ESPN insider headline randomly speculating that Sabathia for Kemp made sense.

What does each cost in terms of luxury tax dollars assuming no dollars change hands?

    thanks.

it's the Dodgers, so you never know, but I didn't think they'd seriously consider moving Kemp's contract just to take on CC's.

As I said before, Kemp looks seriously broken.

Sabathia is going nowhere, and no thanks go Kemp.

If Kemp is traded then the Dodgers might become players for Cano.

According to Cots Kemp's got 6 years and $128 mil left on his contract. He'd be 35 when the contract ended.

They'd be crazy not to pursue this guy. He'd add instant credibility to one of the worst OFs in baseball. Much rather make a move on Kemp than sign Old Man Beltran. If they want Beltran on a two year deal they're going to have pay him 17 mil a year - that's if he'll even take a two year deal.

I'm only a fan if Dodgers help pay the contract. Plus, which players would we have to give up? It ain't CC, that bozo on ESPN can go drink some more Captain. I rather sign Beltran/Granderson still.

I don't even think this is a rumor. I think it was picked up from that article ESPN did suggesting trades.

They cited "a reliable league source" in the article, making me believe that this is their own scoop.

Yes, though the CC part of it I believe was just from that suggested trade.

They're be crazy if they do at this point since he's a major question mark and the price will be CC which even though he had a bad year last year, it leaves us with virtually no proven starting pitching.

I'd hope the Yankees FO would be smart and not trade their only 200 IP/year pitcher on their roster for a broken OFer.

He's not getting traded so don't bother envisioning one without him.

Two years ago I would agree with you. Last year he totally broke down and I see little sign that he could rebound. It doesn't matter if he would be 35 when the contract ended, he needs to actually stay on the field and be good first.

Re: Report: Yankees/Red Sox "pushing hard" to trade for Matt Kemp

CC was pretty bad last year too and there is reason to believe he won't rebound (velocity down trend, and he relied on overpowering fastball all of his career)

Even a straight up trade of CC for Kemp frees up just enough for us (assuming ~25 for Cano) to get Kuroda (18), Tanaka (10), and a middle rotation guy like Feldman(5-8), 8, give or take for our arbitration guys, then rest basically league minimum to get us pretty much right up against 189.

With some salary relief, we could even pick up some role/platoon players that otherwise would not fit under 189.

Probably not happening, but this would be a coup for the Yankees.
