I've seen more action at a bar on a Tuesday night in the midst of a blizzard than this winter meetings have ever had.

There was an amazing amount of activity right before the winter meetings. There's only so much that can happen.

He's accounted for bonuses that aren't given, and with all due respect to Jeter and Arod, they aren't getting.

Which would account for 17 mil of availability v 5 mil.

Seems like the same story every year. High expectations, little action.

I think his no trade last year was due to his 10/5 status, which he no longer has. Might be wrong though.

A-Rod needs six HRs. I think there is a very good chance he gets them.

If, in the end, the Yankees release him, what happens when he hits those bonuses? Is their specific language regarding them that could possibly nullify them if he doesn't achieve them while a Yankee?

Because then you have to send someone through waivers when you need to make a 40 man spot when you sign someone instead of just cutting Wells. If you lose someone to waivers they are gone, rule 5 they probably come back. How many really successful rule 5 picks have there been over the years, a dozen since 1960?

I want them to trade for Cliff Lee pretty badly. A trade would turn the team into an instant WS contender.

What would you be willing to give up for him? I'm still bitter we didnt get him in 2010. No doubt in my mind we win a title that year if the trade didnt fall apart.

So apparently Domonic Brown is being shopped around in a package with Papelbon. Amaro's been trying to dump Brown for years now, it's almost tempting. Almost.

Better yet, who do we have that they'd want or that other teams couldn't top?

Our best shot for him was when Jack Z wanted Eduardo Nunez in place of an injured David Adams and our genius GM said no.

Remember after the trade fell thru, there were many posters who were happy and were like "but now we can sign him in the offseason and lose nothing!". Only to watch him help get Texas to a WS, and then sign with Philly. Good times.

Every account I read reported that Seattle GM Jack Zduriencik moved directly from the medical reports on David Adams to the trade of Cliff Lee to Texas for Justin Smoak and others, with no intervening counteroffer for Eduardo Nunez.

Nunez, however, was mentioned in Fox columnist Ken Rosenthal's preposterous trade proposal for Felix Hernandez in March 2011 ("As rich a 5-for-1 as Zduriencik can imagine without being ridiculous").

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/F...ariners-031311

Zduriencik has made bad trades, but that trade would have been the worst of all.

i've heard a version in which the original package was montero, adams, and nova, but when the medicals on adams didn't check out, jack z countered with nunez, to which cashman said no

The team, as currently constructed, IS a WS contender.

Remember, Rays lost a bunch of key pieces and we picked up arguably BoSox's best player.
