Yankees moving to WFAN in 2014!

I don't mind the move, but why can't we get a new radio team that is at least competent to call the games?

It would make sense for the Yankees to be on an all-sports network. I always thought they'd move to ESPN Radio, but FAN is OK.

I am waiting though for Ma and Pa Yankee to be gone more than anything.

The Yankees currently are carried by WCBS Radio, which like WFAN, is owned by CBS. The current one-year contract is believed to pay the team $13 to $14 million.
Seems like a bargain to me. I would think even the small market teams would be able to get a similar radio deal.

So the FAN is losing money on the Mets? Does that mean the ad revenues are low because nobody listens to Mets games?

What's really bad is they pay 1/2 the amount the Yankees get.

I wonder how much is based on post-season broadcasts when ratings would presumably be higher?

I deal with static now, but don't think 'FAN comes in at all where I am

Yeah, I'm sorry they're losing the strong 880 signal. I don't have any trouble getting either where I live, but WCBS is nice when I'm further away.

I'm actually really happy about this. WFAN is such a better signal for me. Plus they have an FM equivalent.

John isn't going anywhere. The Yankees love him. We're stuck until he loses his voice or dies.

I wonder if their affiliates will be affected by this? I listen to the games on WICC600 out of Bridgeport and where I am in CT that signal is terrific. I'd hate to lose it.

"Whether John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman continue as the Yankees’ announcers on WFAN will ultimately be up to the team. The Yankees will consult with the station but have final approval on their broadcast team."

It's petition & twitter campaign time. I think we'll have more luck with ganging up on waldman and letting the senile guy alone for now

Sterling is insufferable. His jimmies were rustled tonight because A-Rod didn't lay down a bunt in the first inning with Gardner at 2nd base. He whined about it the entire inning. Good call John. Let's have a guy with one of the highest OBP's in the lineup right now give away an out in the first inning when a runner is already in scoring position.

So the Yankees continue to take from the Mets.
First their former stars Cone, Gooden, Strawberry.
Then their TV station, now their radio station.

I don't think taking Channel 9 from the Mets is anything to brag about.

The Mets took Channel 11 from the Yankees.

Re: Yankees moving to WFAN in 2014!

I live in Western Ma and get WFAN pretty clear most of the time. I drove out towards Boston a few weeks back and had it in clear the entire way on the turnpike. 880 I get but it doesn't come in quite as well or have that sort of range.

I've been a WFAN listener since the early 90's so this is great news for me. The station already had full access to the organization so this won't change much, except we might hear a few more Yankee centric voices as hosts, and I'll love having all the pre and post game stuff on the Fan. Really glad they didn't go to ESPN, which I and a lot of other fans wouldn't be able to pull in.

The Mets had been with WFAN since it went all sports in 87, definitely gonna be a little weird not having them on the channel. They can downplay this, but I can't see this not hurting the Mets bottom line. None of the other options have close to the signal strength of WFAN and they're probably looking as a paycut from their last WFAN contract

The Mets should move to 770 WABC,

For years, the Yankees were always on Channel 11 TV, 770 Radio; the Mets were always on 660 AM radio, Channel 9 TV.

Now the Yankees are on Channel 9 and 660.
The Mets are on Channel 11. Going to 770 would complete the Bizarro switch.

I think the Yanks bailed on Channel 11 first for Fox 5 then CBS 2 before ending up on MY 9. Pix11 came calling to fill their baseball void, and the Mets were more than happy to oblige.

    Cheers!
