Could you have made it to high school in 1912?

I suspect many 8th grade graduates today couldn't have.

Take this quiz from a public high school entrance exam from 101 years ago. It's fairly tough. I got 32/37. Embarrassing.

    No Googling answers!

I also got 32 out of 37. I misidentified three of the Balkan states, my weakness

32 is embarrassing? I must be a total idiot. Too many questions about who found and settled what.

    Well-played!

A cop-out, though. Take it and admit your score!

Those are the ones I missed, too. I was lucky and guessed some of them correctly.

I was always awful at remembering names and dates in history. Geography I'm better at but some questions seemed harder because I think things were different a hundred years ago.

Eh. I stopped halfway through because I thought it was a stupid test. Not just random, unessential facts but questions of terminology that were even less important. The properties of a verb? Really? (Even though I got it - and most of the others - right.)

I guess the idea was that we're not as well-educated now, but what I learned was that the education system was stupid then. Maybe it still is, but it doesn't seem to have been much better then.

I thought that was an odd question, too.

    You're an odd question.

You might have been able to get into high school in 1912, but it wouldn't have mattered much. You could have gone on to be a nurse, a teacher, a secretary or a housewife, and you weren't allowed to vote.

Yes, that occurred to me, as well. There were a few women who went to medical school...if they were from wealthy families, of course.

So you're suggesting that I am incorrect and you are correct?

I have a theory about your response to this test. I'm could be wrong. I'm not suggesting you're wrong, I'm suggesting you're lying.
