nice idea but what about when Jeter retires changing River ave to Rivera ave is great but isnt Jeter equally as important to the Yankees as Rivera is
The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

That would be great, although I think New York maybe has a thing about only making statues for people who are deceased

But the reason this works is because all you have to do is add an "a" at the end of the name of the street. It's destiny!

Cool Won't be needing the "Just Add The a!" signs to give them the hint now.

The West Side Highway is also known as Joe Dimaggio Highway, not sure how "official" it is but there are a few signs which say it along the highway.

Andy is pitching, so we have a good shot at seeing a win, too!

I hope Lyle, Gossage and Wetteland will be there too. Interesting that Dave Righetti will already be there as the Giant's pitching coach.

Anyone else confirmed to be there? Couldn't find any more info besides that previous teammates and coaches will be there.

Are we expecting Mo to give a speech?

The area behind the LF gate at OYS was called "Babe Ruth Plaza". Not sure if it is now.

Not only is it still there, but there is a new wall with "Babe Ruth Plaza" on it in very large letters. Gehrig has a plaza up closer to the Concourse. And there was Ruppert Place until 2008.

Is there a waiting period on how long they have to wait to retire a number?

Since MLB has already retired the number, I wouldn't think so. And even if they hadn't...its the Yankees call anyway.

I was sort of expecting JDPNYY to ask this.
If they ask who was our star, give them 25 names, and if you forget our names, just tell them we were Yankees.

There is no "waiting period" to retire a number. It's the teams choice. I believe the Yankees retired Munson's #15 within days of his tragic death.

In the past, they have generally waited until sometime the following year and had a "Day" for the player.
