    you know he's just done.

He's living off of his power. If you check his splits he's hitting .234 to RF and has a wRC+ of 90 and a .247 ISO. Meaning, he just can't turn on the fastball anymore. He's done.

At least Hafner is gone after this year. Yankees don't cut veterans so Soriano will take up a spot for all of 2014.

What I'm concerned w/ Soriano about is that his strike outs went up from Jun to July. But we'll take that when you produce a 145 wRC+ and a .389 wOBA.

Looks like his spot of choice to drive the ball is CF (.402) ISO there.

Wells should wear a clipboard as far as I'm concerned right now.

Wells has cut back on his swing and is hitting .321 for July with a .400 OBP. No homers but if he can keep doing that we'll gladly take it.

I expect Soriano to get a very warm ovation. Yankee fans tend to look back very fondly on Soriano despite the 03 post-season. Personally, I was a huge fan of his. He was on his way to being the 2001 world series mvp until Mariano threw the ball into center field. He instantly becomes the best right hand hitter on this team.

Reading this at work and I burst out laughing. Too damn true.

Feeling super nostalgic regarding Sori rocking the old 12. Interestingly enough, he *is* Old 12. Regardless, hopefully he sees great fastballs to turn on due to the league getting used to the lowly Yankees of 2013.

Wow, I never realised he was doing well in July.
40 pitchers, ever, have an ERA+ of 130 or higher for their career. 15 have 140 or higher. 3 guys have 150 or higher - one is right at 150, the second place guy is at 154, and Mariano Rivera is at 205.

He quickly had an outfield assist.

The real question is: does he still swing at pitches headed toward the first-base dugout ?

no he's cut that down. He actually showed a lot of patience tonight. Just missed hitting a double imo, just got under it. He'll help but we're kind of screwed.

Old Hoss Radbourn@OldHossRadbourn 9m A. Soriano left 6 men on base this evening. Because he is not A-Rod, the headline will merely read "Soriano returns, fits right in."

oh, ok... so he only swings at pitches headed toward the on-deck circle, then ? Good to know he's improved the past few years !

Re: 2013 Alfonso Soriano Performance Thread

i was a proponent of picking up Soriano at the beginning of the season, thinking he would be a fourth outfielder and sometime DH...(this was when we thought Granderson would be back for most of the season).

I don't really get the point of the move right now though....yes, he makes them marginally better but he's not that much of an upgrade over Vernon Wells really....and they gave up a young arm (granted I know nothing about who they gave up, but still an arm is an arm), and took on more salary for next year.
