The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

With Jeter most likely back tomorrow, it will be like old times!

Um can we send A-Rod to the Cubs?

Wonder if he will bat clean up. Got to be an improvement over Hafner, Wells and Overbay.

Of course he will. He's instantly the Yankees 2nd best hitter and 2nd best power threat.

Though that speaks more to the state of the Yankee lineup these days than Soriano as a hitter.

At any rate, good move. Low prospect cost and not to too expensive for a guy who should be a 2 win player per year.

Will be interesting to see how quickly the love evaporates the first time he goes 0-4 with 3 k's on breaking stuff low and away.

He's a flawed older player for sure but he's a large upgrade over what the Yanks have been trotting out there.

Oh, I completely agree - I just remember how frustrating it was to watch him at times during his first tenure in pinstripes.

It is sad though that we are considering basically a league average bat a "large" upgrade.

umm... we didn't get him to lead off or bat 8th. Not for what we traded.

I was frustrated too in his 5 years with the Yankees.........keeping in mind his first two years he had 58 AB.
He never made a million dollars in none of those 5 years and in 2001-2003 he had hit 95 HR and had 119 SB.
He was an All-Star in 02 and 03.
Jacked around in the field and was so good that he was one of the very few players that would be accepted in a trade for A-Rod.....who at that time really had no equals except for Bonds.
And from what I'm seeing on Baseball Reference.com a 9.5 WAR with his tenure with the Yankees.
    Oh my, how frustrating.

The two things I really remember about Soriano's first tenure with the Yanks

His G7 HR off Shilling in 01 that nearly held up.
The year he fell just short of 40/40

Other than that I recall him being an adventure at 2B and he never met a slider low and away that he didn't like but man could he turn on a fastball.

^ 2002.....39 HR 41 SB. Now, that was tough to take.

Also he was SS most of his minor league career.
He was then experimented at 3rd and the OF before finally being stuffed in at second.
If I remember correctly...........because Knoblauch completely fell apart at 2B around 2000-2001 (if you want to talk about an adventure).
Up until that time the Yankees were considering Sori for the OF and giving him a lot of reps in the OF during the off season and spring training.
So yeah he had a tough time taking over 2B partly because he was being bounced all over the field.

Did he set the post season strikeout record in 03?

I'm not sure, but that was brutal to watch. I've seen guys be cold, but it was hard to take watching him swing and miss at the same pitch over and over.

Yes. Though to be fair, he's not close to the worst strikeout ratio. He had 26 in 75 plate appearances. Pat Burrell is 2nd with 22 in 2010, but he did it in only 49 plate appearances, including 11 strikeouts in 15 WS plate appearances (yowza!). Ryan Howard is 3rd with 21 in 2009, in 64 plate appearances.

He still has to be better to watch than Hafner.

it was but when your top hitter in the OF is hitting a

    112 wRC+ w/ minimal power while the next 2 OF combine for a 162 wRC+

suddenly you look at Alfonso's 100 wRC+ a yr. removed from 116 and add in his power threat. It suddenly looks like Babe Ruth returning where this line up is concerned.
