so NL Central it is for the 2014 season. I'm guessing the Cubs will probably play a 3 game set in the Bronx
The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

    Re: 2014 Interleague opponents

In 2012 the Yankees played 15 out of 18 interleague games against the NL East, so after the NL West this year the NL Central makes sense for 2014.

Could be like the Dodgers this season. 2 games at YS and 2 games at Wrigley Field.

Been looking for an excuse to get to PNC, hoping the Yanks play in Pittsburgh and not vice versa.

Yankees haven't played in Milwaukee since 2005. So maybe there is 2 and 2 against them. We know its going to be against one NL Central team.

Cubs-Yankees have more of a historical tie so maybe they go 2-2

yeah, but MLB is in love with the Red Sox-Cubs matchup too.

    Re: 2014 Interleague opponents

The Red Sox interleague opponents were announced and they'll play their two two-game series against Cincinnati (in addition to Atlanta).

So with Tampa playing St. Louis and the Red Sox playing the Reds that leaves Chicago, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh as the possible teams.

Also, the Yankees-Mets will be at the same time as last year, the Monday-Thursday of Memorial Day week.

    Re: 2014 Interleague opponents

Yankees @ Boston April 22-24, Aug. 1-3 and finish the season Sept. 26-28

2011 the Yanks visited cubs and reds and the Brewers and Rockies visited the bronx

2008 Yanks @ Astros and Pirates and the reds and padres visited the bronx

2005 Yanks @ Brewers and Cardinals

I doubt the yankees will visit the cubs or reds since they've visited them last time the AL east played NL Central in 2011. Which leaves either visiting the pirates or the brewers

Im betting on the schedule following 2005 and also visiting the brewers in 2014 where we already know they are going to STL next year instead it will be a 2-2/ home and home set with either of these teams

Does that make it about 10 out of 12 seasons that the Yankees finish on the road?

Hopefully they play at Pittsburgh next season. I want to see a game at PNC badly. Everything I hear says that PNC is on the level of AT&T Park and Camden Yards; and those two parks are #1 and #2 on my list in terms of parks I have seen games at. So I am very intrigued to see if PNC lives up to the hype.

It is awesome and in a beautiful spot. Take the ferry boat to the game if you can. And be prepared to smile over the low prices for food and drinks.

    Re: 2014 Interleague opponents

The Reds visited Yankee Stadium for a 3 game set in 2012 also (which was kind of weird because the rest of the Yankees interleague schedule was against the NL East teams).

So wouldn't it be more fair for the Yanks to visit the Reds and Cardinals in 2014 while playing the Cubs and Pirates at home. Maybe the Brewers would be the 'home and home' 2 game set since the Brewers just visited the Bronx in 2011 but it's been a while since the Yankees went to Milwaukee.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense but then again this is MLB we're talking about here....

MLB never cares about fairness of schedule. To date the Yankees have played 8 interleague games at Dodger Stadium as opposed to just 2 games played by the Dodgers in the Bronx.

    ^ agreed

Plus in the last "rotation" of playing NL central the Yankees went to Cincy in 2011 so the next time around I really dont think they would go back to cincy after having "just" played there the last time around.

Just like ballplayers...seems like the schedule maker(2) are a creature of habit with alittle mix of quirkiness sprinkled in.

    Re: 2014 Interleague opponents

The Yankees visited the Braves in 2012 after having "just" visited Atlanta in 2009 (the last time the AL East played the NL East) so there is precedent for it. Again it doesn't make sense but that's MLB scheduling for you.

    Re: 2014 Interleague opponents

Saw this on a Milwaukee Brewers board and thought it might be relevant for this discussion. It looks like the Yankees will be definitely be playing @ the Brewers and @ the Cardinals next year. Has anyone been able to uncover any specific dates for these series yet? (never too early to plan....)

    from brewerfan.net:
    --------------------------
With as terrible as this season has gone, is it too early to look ahead to the 2014 schedule? Some tidbits have been released.

According to this article by ESPN Boston, the Brewers will be in Boston for the Red Sox home opener April 4. http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/red-s...ns-cubs-on-tap

Also, according to this article from the Tampa Bay times, the Brewers will travel to Tampa to face the Rays in a three-game series. http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/rays/2...siting/2130314

Since we know which two teams the Brewers face on the road in interleague next year, we know the Yankees, Blue Jays and Orioles will all be visiting Miller Park in 2014. Two for a three-game series, the other will be a two-game home-and-home.

    Re: 2014 Interleague opponents

That means that Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and the Cubs could be coming to the Bronx for interleague play next year. If Milwaukee is the home and home than Yanks will visit 1 of the 3 for a 3 game set in their home park. Also where are Yanks opening next season? Baltimore is facing Boston and Tampa has Toronto so Yanks are playing either a West or Central team or could it be the Yanks opening in Cincinnati next year?

Reds always open at home, so it won't be them.

    Re: 2014 Interleague opponents

I said the Yanks might be going to Cincy for the season opener because of the 3 I listed that could come to the Stadium for Interleague Play next season. I think it will Pittsburgh and the Cubs the Yanks face at the Stadium and the home and home with Milwaukee which means they could open up the season in Cincy next year.

    Re: Piecing together 2014 schedule

FWIW and to add more speculation as to NL Central home and road opponents for 2014

As for the interleague portion of their schedule, the Orioles will host the Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. They will play the Nationals, Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs on the road.
