Not sure I understand this pick up. However, it looks like this marked the end of BenFran, so it serves a purpose.

Huff gives Girardi a second lefty to use out of the bullpen for those beloved L/L matchups.

    Career v. LHB: .316/.388/.514

What is going on with Rapada?
David Ortiz tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003.

Rapada has given up 10 hits in 7 IP with a 5.14 ERA at SWB this season - he is not the answer, that is for certain.

Depends on what they want. That's an awfully small sample size (it's now 8IP) and he's coming off an injury. He has been decent against LHB at SWB (1.0 WHIP) and awful versus RHB (2.5 WHIP). That's about what Rapada is.

    Career against LHB: .168 / .257 / .236
    Career against RHB: .342 / .459 / .613

If they're going to carry a LOOGY, he's a good bet to be effective in that role. If you expand him to RHBs though, he turns them all into Albert Pujols.

Yeah, with a LOOG, you really have to look strictly at the L vs. L split. Sometimes these guys will be used to mop up an inning or two in blowout losses and will be left in against righties who can clean their clock, thus skewing their ERA upward somewhat.

Don't know what his Scranton splits are but, aside from it being a SSS as you mentioned, I notice he's got 7 IP in his 7 appearances, which seems to indicate he's being left in against all comers (probably want him to get work coming off the injury). In the majors, he'd have much fewer innings pitched than appearances.

Yeah I don't get this one at all. Huff is generally bad at pitching. Personally I hope they DFA him when they activate Joba.

Soon GMs (asst GMs, Managers, etc) will be telling their players that they have been traded to the Yankees. Enjoy your two week stay until they DFA you.

DFA'd. So, what's the technicality here? Cash has made a few of these moves this season already. What's to be gained when acquiring a player, and DFAing him a few days later? Wasn't Adams also DFA'd before being returned to the roster?

I guess you can hope they clear waivers and outright them to your minors for depth?

Adams was technically released and resigned. Had he been DFA'd he probably would have been claimed by another team. It was an odd situation.

Great. Now we will have two lefties in the bullpen who can fail at getting David Ortiz out.

Interesting anecdote from Suzyn in tonight's broadcast. She said that on the day he was DFA'd back in May, she was surprised to encounter him in workout clothes. He explained that he wanted to have one more session with Larry Rothschild, because in the one session he had had time for in the few days he was with the club, he had learned something he hadn't learned in the eight years of his professional career.

David Huff told me last wk about a tweak to his delivery Larry R made in May before he was DFA. Gave him lot of confidence. Showed
