If George were alive today what do you think he would do?

I was wondering with all the Yank injuries this year how do you think Steinbrenner would handle this? Would he fire the training staff? Demand that Cashman empty the bank and acquire any available superstars that are out there? Or, would he demand to know why Yankee fans are not coming out to support their team like they did in the past? Just wondering. What do the rest of you fans think?

I think the George of 30 years ago would be hunting down someone like Reggie who thrives in the big moments and would crush the ball in October....too many postseason appearances, not enough trophies. I think he would be praising the kids who are playing now and winning, but he'd also be getting all over Cano for too many miserable postseason series and also jabbing at Tex for having a huge contract but spending lots of time on the DL. As for the attendance he'd chalk it up to the big draws being on the DL and home the folks show up once everyone is healthy.
    Let the kids play.

Don't mean to knock people I really know nothing about, but I've been "wondering" about the Medical/training staff myself. (Apologies to those folks, but can't help being cynical here.) George probably would have made changes by now; courted staff from teams/organisations with better track records in this regard.
It's downright ridiculous anymore. Dodgers may be just as bad, though.

If you think about it, most probably have nothing to do with the training:
Jeter - nothing would have prevented that injury
    A-Rod - recurring injury, probably not playing-related.
    Granderson - HBP
Youk - he was injury prone before
    Haffner - see Youk
Cervelli - if anything, defense coaches could be blamed
    Tex - trainers questionable
Pineda - Maybe preventative measures could have helped
Pettitte - probably age related but he's had back problems before
    Nova - trainers questionable
    Joba - who knows.

It's just a bad run for the most part.
    Let the kids play.

I have to believe that Mr. Steinbrenner would be throwing money all over this. Wouldn't matter that the Yankees are in first place.
He'd find a way to spend money on big names.
Didn't agree with many, many of his spending sprees but it was his money.

Definitely would have fired some training staff. Otherwise, the winning would have kept him temporarily calm. The first slump would have meant trading everything that even looks like a prospect, however.

    Al,

I was having such a good day up till now and you had to go and spoil it. George would be George. He would act spontaneously, rashly, impetuously, expensively with out any thought of what his actions would do to the club and without looking for input from respected "baseball people" on the Yankees payroll.

Let's see, Girardi would have been fired after losing that opening series with Boston. He would have blasted Cano to the papers after his slow start. He would trade any good prospect we have to get Jason Giambi's bat back. That would be for starters.

There's another really bad-taste joke I want to put in here, about what Abraham Lincoln would be doing if he were alive today. Mike and Eric undoubtedly know it, but I won't put the punchline here. Too soon.

Oh heck, if George were George, Girardi wouldn't have made it past the 2008 season. All those injuries would have meant nothing; all that would have mattered was that they didn't make the playoffs. The team would be on its third or fourth manager by now.

Josh Hamilton would be a Yankee, for better or worse.
David Ortiz tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003.

I agree with all of this plus the training staff would be replaced and Pinella would be back as the manager.
