tonight this guy is playing LF and batting cleanup for the yankees. i remember when he was leading off and playing CF for the tigers. i thought it was dumb back then, too (at least the leadoff part).
    like delv, but better

Re: 2013 Curtis Granderson Performance Thread

But he's a speedy CF that can steal. He has to bat leadoff.

If Wells continues to perform, does Granderson become trade bait?

I doubt we'd get much for him right now. Makes more sense to me to keep him until he starts to hit. Then we can keep or trade as the situation merits.

Yes, but only if Granderson starts hitting HRs.

Then someone else can deal with his low BA and subpar defense.

One of the things I've liked about the team this year is its mojo without both Granderson and Tex. Wells has basically done everything we could have hoped for from Curtis and then some, and Overbay has pretty much made us forget about Tex. In fact, the team seems to be performing better without them.

I'd rather have Ichiro play over Grandy and save him for a PH homerun need late in the game.

I don't expect anything from Tex, Jeter, or A-Rod either.

I've been wondering what's going to happen when the regulars come back too. These guys are hungry and have something to prove. I'm not saying that Tex, Jeter or Grandy are complacent. It's just that the whole personality of the team as it is seems to be a really good fit for the way they're going to have to play to win ballgames.

Anyone notice he went back to his one-handed, drunk scarecrow swing? Maybe the forearm bothers him in a two handed follow-through?

LOL @ drunk scarecrow swing. I wonder if someone with a brain (get it? scarecrow?) worked with him on not being so top-hand-heavy. He stayed through the ball much better last night. That's a good thing. I hope he keeps doing it.

Yea, play the guy with the 65 OPS+ over the 40-homer threat. You're like the poster child for bad ideas.

Happy for him. On base all 4 times with some sluggin' goin' on.
Just some, are you kiddin' me bad luck in his First Spring Training AB.
Maybe the late start will keep him fresher for later this year in the playoffs.

    Then redemption.

Probably belongs in a more general thread but despite the Yankees team sucess, Ben Francisco is dead weight, Lyle Overbay is still not nearly as good as Tex and they are getting about a 60 OPS+ combined from the Nix/Nunez/Gonzalez/Brineac abomination at SS. So I think guy coming back will only help. Only really intersting decision they will have to make if Adams keeps hitting.

Overbay is batting .250 with .753 OPS (7 HR, 25 RBI). Teixeira, as of May 23 last year, was batting .226 with a .671 OPS (5 HR, 21 RBI).

And Teixeira coming off of a weak season and a weak postseason, along with a wrist problem... that doesn't really give me much confidence that he can do much more than Overbay is doing right now. And I'd much rather have Overbay than Teixeira hitting against RHP. Overbay's struggles against lefties have dragged down his numbers (he's got an .885 OPS vs. RHP).

Let's just have one of A-Rod/Adams play short while Jeter is out. It probably wouldn't be pretty, but neither is watching Nix or Brignac bat. Nunez can't hit or field. Sure, A-Rod hasn't played short in years, and his body has changed, and he's recovering from a hip problem, but he could probably walk casually to his left and equal Jeter's range. And sure, Adams has never played SS before, but he's looked better than expected at third. Or we could just move Cano to SS and Adams can play second. Actually, I like that best, although it would have some scary contract implications.

I wonder if Joe would even dare to platoon Tex.

Bad luck for a "good guy" in his contract year.
