    2013 Vidal Nuno Performance Thread

Finally got his call-up, and got into a game for the first time tonight... lots of hard hit balls and long outs, but can't argue with 3 scoreless

with a body like that, who needs to throw 95?

Agreed.......some good, some bad. Final line isn't indicative of how he pitched.

I do like what I saw though. Majority of the hitters he faced were off balanced.

agreed, wasnt many strikeouts like in Spring Training but hey the kid was probably nervous as hell. Either way 3 scoreless innings is a start

it could mean both, as girardi uses "robbie" to refer to both cano and robertson

He hasn't pitched in nearly 15 days. This whole process of calling up AAA starters and sticking them in the pen only to wind up using them every 25 days is just dumb as hell.

I didn't realize that Nuno was wearing the dreaded No. 34 of Doom, previously worn by the likes of AJ Burnett, 2008 Phil Hughes, Sean Henn and Jaret Wright

I hope that's why his command looked horrid,

I will say, though. Every time he looked like we was about to implode, he came through and made that good pitch to get himself out of trouble.

He pitched 5 scoreless innings to make 8 scoreless innings in his career and got his first win. He leads the AL in innings pitched among pitchers with a 0.00 ERA. Only Kevin Gregg of the Cubs has pitched more innings with a 0.00 ERA.

Not a single swinging strike but he was very effective nonetheless.
40 pitchers, ever, have an ERA+ of 130 or higher for their career. 15 have 140 or higher. 3 guys have 150 or higher - one is right at 150, the second place guy is at 154, and Mariano Rivera is at 205.

For all you old timers out there, this guy reminds me of Luis Arroyo, who pitched for NY in 1961 and won 15 games mostly in relieve and save many of Whitey Fords 25 wins. Arroyo who was a lefty, didn't throw hard but had good control and an assortment of breaking pitches. Check his records.

He didn't have a single swing and miss, and limited to 3 hits over 5ip. Not bad, but let's see some swings and misses. More of the latter, preferably.

15 wins and 29 saves, what an odd combo.

He was the first player to have a season with at least 15 wins and at least 29 saves. Dick Radatz in 1964 was the second and last player to do that.

    Nuno was demoted to AAA.

This is a good thing. He can start every 5 games now instead of having another longman that we do not need right now.
