When are people going to stop blaming Joba for being what he is and start blaming our manager who keeps bringing him into close games when there are much better options. (Claiborne, Kelley).

    Joba Chamberlain now with -0.1WAR.

What purpose does he serve on this team? He has fallen so far, he should be used in garbage time only.

Especially considering that Mo is gone next year and the 7-8-9 assignments have to be changed anyway. I'd hand the 7th off to Claiborne - he looks plenty poised enough for that job, and if the team doesn't get a replacement closer he could be the 8th inning pitcher next year, so now's a good time to get him into tight games on a regular basis.

Exactly. There is very little chance that Joba will be here next year. So why not give someone else the chance to be the 7th inning guy.

The binder told him to go with Joba.

    My question is:

How did this guy become so horsesh*t?

Does young Joe not, "get it", yet?

Joba was a mop up man like 2-3 weeks ago.

He's been the worst pitcher on the team for.......what? Over a month?

I don't understand young Joe's logic lately with his usage of Joba.
The Yankees have to keep the other team from scoring, cause they sure ain't going to score.
    Well sometimes. Maybe.
Joba is letting the other team score...at will.
Let him figure it out mopping up. If that's where he stays, so be it.
Could he be sent to the minors for a week or two to figure it out?

Figure what out? He has his velocity back but he can't locate. He's now Farnsworth 2.0. I think he needs a new environment...maybe that will help him. He's certainly not helping us.

Joba has never been able to locate well and his fastball is straight as an arrow.

He might be one of those guys that just can't cut it without clocking in at 98.

    This is amazing.

Despite Chamberlain’s recent struggles (four home runs allowed in last seven appearances), Girardi maintained he would not shy away from Chamberlain in pressure situations.

“We’re in a lot of those one run games either way,” Girardi said. “So he’s going to have to pitch and help us and to me it’s getting him on track. I thought he threw pretty well before he got hurt and he just hasn’t gotten on track for us and we’ve got to find a way to do (that). So whatever that means and whatever that takes, we’ll try to do it.”

Wow. Young Joe has spoken. ^
I am now back on the Joba bandwagon also.

He pitched a scoreless inning. OMG.
    Yankees lose anyway.

    Per RAB

Via George King: The Braves and Giants have interest in Joba Chamberlain as the trade deadline approaches. Both clubs are looking for bullpen help and both had scouts on hand to watch his recent outings — the Braves over the weekend in Baltimore, the Giants last night against the Twins. Both appearances were scoreless.

Chamberlain, 27, has a 5.75 ERA and 5.07 FIP in 20.1 innings this year. He missed about a month with an oblique strain and has been just dreadful since returning, pitching to a 7.36 ERA and 6.14 FIP in 11 innings. Joba’s only redeeming qualities at this point are that he still throws hard (94.8 mph, hardest since 2008) and can miss bats (9.74 K/9, 22.9 K%, and 9.9% swing-and-misses). If the Yankees are lucky, his “name value” with fetch some kind of return. Otherwise half-a-season of an inconsistent, injury prone middle reliever usually nets you close to nothing.
Can't believe teams would be interested in him.

Mid-upper 90s fastball with good looking slider and 2007 on his resume.

He's basically Farnsworth. And Farnsworth got a ton of chances.

Re: 2013 Joba Chamberlain Performance Thread

I understand the intrigue, Joba still has good stuff & people might still be thinking that they can change some things to revert him back to being a dominant reliever. They just won't give up much to find out if they can. I suspect that for the trading team, this will be a low risk high reward potential deal. The Yankees don't know what they are doing with pitching so someone else might give it a try with him.

The NL just might be a good place for Joba to start over.
Hope the Yankees can get someone to help (the bats) stay in contention for the second half of the season.

Me too. I only hope the interested team has a similar piece with high reward offensive potential to offer up in return.

Seattle would probably want Pineda back as part of that deal.
