time off is not some kind of commutative and save-able elixir for injury. resting him for 5 consecutive days does not then let you play him 20 games straight and have that be equivalent to spreading the 5 days out in the 20 games.

Hafner DH vs Happ today. Either Girardi is sick of Francisco or Hafner has good numbers on Happ.
Thank you for making me calm today, Brett Gardner

Re: 2013 Joe Girardi performance thread:

Girardi pretty much never pays attention to splits like that when its LHH vs. LHP. I always bring up the Bobby Abreu decision back in 2008 as it was the dumbest thing he's done in a long list of dumb things.*

*Abreu had just come off a five game stretch (24PA) where he put up this line: 5BB/9H/2HR/9RBI. Mets threw out Oliver Perez for the series finale and boom, benched for Justin Christian. Yanks lost that game 3-1.

I'd like to see Almonte called up. My bet is they're waiting for Mustelier to heal up.
They should just put him on the 60-day DL, just to be safe.

Finally Joe gives Hafner a chance against a lefty. It seemed to work out okay.

I could be wrong but I think I heard Sterling say that Hafner was 0 - 13 vs. Happ prior to this game. If true, it's definitely the former. Either way I think the Francisco at DH era is coming to an end.

I guess we are lucky that Joe decided to rest Francisco today. Because we know that Hafner can't hit LHPs.

That seems to be how you gain Girardi's confidence. Succeed in miserable situations and maybe you'll get a legitimate shot the following season.

If Warren's successful as a middle reliever, though, he'll never get a chance to be a starter.

Predictable. God forbid a rookie doesn't go 4 - 4 in his first big league start.

WTF? If Joe had no problems in bringing Mo in a non-save situation, why not let him start the inning then?

Joe probably blamed Romine in part for Andy's difficulties in that game, though Andy's inability to throw his cutter seemed to me the real problem.

In any case, I agree that Joe is generally too conservative as a manager and we have seen many examples of this over the past few games.
