Hafner has done more in one pinch hit appearance for Ben Francisco, than Ben Francisco has done all season.

We should see Hafner tonight unless Joe thinks Francisco can hit RHPs better than LHPs.

    LOL...

Absent Cano's plate appearances in the two hole, the Yankees have the following from #2 hitters through the first 21 games:

    44 PA
    5 H
    1 2B
    0 3B
    0 HR
    2 R
    0 RBI
    10 K
    1 SB

    That is atrocious.

Re: 2013 Joe Girardi performance thread:

    I cannot believe this..
Hafner has had plenty of rest, it;s one thing to give him a night off when a lefty pitches or to sit him down when a tough lefty is out there..
But the last 4 pitches we have faced, 3 have been lefties, he's rested plenty..

The lefty going tonight should not be able to get me out, so Hafner should be playing..

ps-if Youk still cannot go tonight against this lefty, then it is time to consider the DL
I used to think I was crazy... Now I am sure of it..

Re: 2013 Joe Girardi performance thread:

I tried to defend Girardi as a typical, uninspired ML manager above.

But I am off even that train now. Keeping Hafner on the bench this long is not defensible. Girardi should ask himself where he would bat Hafner were he in the lineup. It surely would not be 9th. That should tell him something.

We can only hope that he is telling Francisco that this is his last chance.

Re: 2013 Joe Girardi performance thread:

Refusing to start Hafner against LHP's -- at all, whatsoever, despite how sh1tty and soft-tossing they might be -- is so paralyzingly stupid I can't process it for the life of me. I could see if there were strong alternatives and/or the team was performing halfway decent against LHP's without him, but there's nothing of the sort going on. Hafner has been one of the very best Yankees' hitters thus far and he's riding pine constantly for a preceived platoon advantage that doesn't even exist. Hell, the guy hasn't even been all that bad vs. lefties in his career. I just don't get this at all. Sure, he's a health risk and you want to keep him fresh, but we're past that and are now risking utter stagnation.

Meanwhile, my 8 year old daughter could out-hit Francisco, but he keeps getting starts because Girardi "has to get him going". News flash, Joe: you tried to get him going and it hasn't worked. Move on, man!

Re: 2013 Joe Girardi performance thread:

Hafner has a career .804OPS & a .360OBP against LHP. Nothing that screams he has to play against lefties but neither are they worthy of him not getting the chance to.

    Francisco's career against LHP: .719OPS with a .322OBP

I'm sure he could. I'd rather him continue to mash righties ALL season than him hit .150+ against lefties for half the season because of an injury.

What does this even mean? Hafner isn't a complete zero against LHP -- I'm talking pre-Yankee Curtis Granderson zero -- even disregarding that, he's a better bet to reach base against them than Francisco. Benching a guy who has been your second best hitter thus far in favor of a career scrub (who hits RHP better anyways) is just dumb as hell.

    Girardi is a clown.

Re: 2013 Joe Girardi performance thread:

I'm glad they aren't playing Hafner a lot because his injury record shows that a slight breeze could be what kills him.

I'd like to see Almonte called up. My bet is they're waiting for Mustelier to heal up.

You clearly have a different binder to Joe.
40 pitchers, ever, have an ERA+ of 130 or higher for their career. 15 have 140 or higher. 3 guys have 150 or higher - one is right at 150, the second place guy is at 154, and Mariano Rivera is at 205.

that might work snapple, if you guarantee that hafner's not going to get injured by exclusively hitting against righties.

Playing him everyday would increase the chance of a baseball related injury.

yes, don't play him because he might get injured and...not play. brilliant.

if you want to rest hafner, do it when he's tired or the weather is bad.

Re: 2013 Joe Girardi performance thread:

also the issue is him sitting for like, a week in favor of ben francisco.

it's not a "play him everyday" issue. so you gotta move your goal post back onto the field

It would be better to keep him healthy when he mashes righties. He's going to get a lot of game time in.

This is just stemming from Tex/Arod/Youk/Granderson being injured. Don't need to lose ANOTHER powerbat to settle for .150 against lefties because "well, Francisco sucked".
