    2013 Offense Performance Thread

14 runs on 18 hits tonight, including 5 HRs.

    Not too shabby.

I'd be lying if I wasn't intrigued. Glad Cashman bailed on that.

    Definitely.

This is what they're supposed to do to bad pitching.

However, we all know it doesn't always work out like that.

Can we petition MLB to allow us to face Cleveland all season?

I like the team, even though we're not as tight defensively.. We're not bad either, the weather has been brutal so windy and cold..

Our pitchers have been getting squeezed a bit, still they held their own.. The everyday players need a break now and then from the conditions!! Even saying this I'm pretty happy with our overall team and effort..

As I have been my whole life I'm proud to be a Yankee fan, and win, lose or draw I'll stay that way!

Glad to see Mr. Suzuki is feeling slappy. His first 2 doubles of the year off two different pitchers is keeping him above the Mendoza Line.

Maybe it's time for a streak that brings his BA closer to the .300 line.

    Re: 2013 Offense Performance Thread

As our season continues our offense is struggling in the later innings, we have three players in a row batting around 200.. We need more production from those hitters, I understand that Ichiro is one of them even so he's slumping in this cold weather and his OBP is .250...

I'm bringing him up because we have a young outfielder sitting on the bench with pretty good numbers(Boesch), even if it's just for now this kid needs to play..

Also Nix and Nunez are killing rally's with Nunez batting .175 and Nix OBP of.250, why are we not alternating some of our minor league players in and out? We need Joe to step up and make a few Baseball moves, moves that work.. Or at least try, because what we're doing will slowly bring us down..

Also again while you're down there pick up a little more middle relief pitching because we need more options, even if it's just for now as I repeat myself.. I want nothing more then to put our best players out there, and compete..

Now is a good time for Joe to show us why he was picked as manager of the year, the last thing that the Yankees need now is bad calls on top of slumping players.. The Yankees are a top class organization, they need to start looking that way...

5 runs in 3 games against Tampa. Tough series for our offense.

Yep. When I saw Moore/Price/Cobb lined up, I knew the runs would be few and far between.

I think you have to be happy with 11-9 right now though. The team will add Granderson, Teixeira, Pineda, A-Rod and Jeter as the season goes on and run production should go way up. I'm hoping the team is no worse than 6 or 7 games out by June 1. If so they should begin climbing from there.
    Let the kids play.

    That rotation is ridiculously deep.

They could trade the reigning Cy Young Award winner, bring up their top starter in the minors and STILL have one of the four or five best rotations in the AL. I'd put a rotation of Moore, Hellickson, Cobb, Hernandez and Archer up against all but a few really.

Yep, I would have signed for 11 and 9 to start the season for sure...they're on pace for 89 wins which some years is good enough for a wildcard....(though probably not this year with the houston scenario)...

But just getting Granderson back is going to be a big deal and then if they can get 15 home runs out of Tex and 80 games out of Jeter, there's no reason they won't be right in the mix assuming CC, Kuroda and Pettitte are mostly healthy....

    Re: 2013 Offense Performance Thread

There are some black holes in the lineup now: obviously the RHed DH, who can be and should be replaced by one of several options -- even the option of using LHed DH in all games, the SS, who I still hope will start to hit somewhat better and whom I still hope will be replaced by a well functioning HOFer at some point late in the season, and the first baseman, who hopefully will be replaced some time in May by a very productive bat.

But for now, the offense is just hanging in there and too dependent on a few bats.

Hopefully, Cervilli keeps contributing, so another black hole does not develop as the season progresses.

Scary to think that Cervelli is a player the Yankees absolutely can't afford to lose...but given the thought of 6 weeks without him, I sort of feel like that. Chris Stewart starting every day in this already-weakened offense?

Also, why the eff is Ben Francisco still playing, and batting near the top of the lineup?

This has been a major source of frustration. Yeah, injuries and all. Yeah, it's early. Etc etc

But when you're routinely trotting out - and batting second no less - a guy with an 89 OPS+ the last two years and reverse splits against LHP for his career as your RH platoon DH you have a problem. Where is Mustelier? Neal? Anyone?

    Cashman - WTF?

With their pitching, yeah - should be. And the games they've lost have been predominately due to pitching. But "more" is better than "enough." Just because to date the offense has been stronger than most fans had expected, doesn't mean you should have Ben Francisco as the RH portion of a DH platoon.

    Career against LHP: .244 / .323 / .397 (612 PA)
    Since 2010 against LHP: .213 / .291 / .304 (258 PA)

Really? A .595 OPS against LHP and he's being sent out there to bat 2nd against them?

This team's right handed hitters are hitting .195 / .287 / .292 against LHP so far - and that INCLUDES Vernon Wells who is torching LHP.

What's the status on Mustelier? They have Adams and Neal raking and hitting LHP at SWB. Heck, Rivera was still moderatly effective against LHP. Give that guy a call and cut bait with Francisco. Eventually, his at bats are going to cost this team, and given that they're trying to stay competitive until reinforcements arrive every game matters.

Hafner is in the lineup against a LHP tonight. Easy there, F1.
