    2013 Hiroki Kuroda Performance Thread

He is the definition of No.2 pitcher. His stuff may not be the best in the league. But he knows how to pitch.

Do the Yanks skip Hirokis next start due to his control issues since getting hit on his finger?

And even with the first inning control issues it was a few bad breaks that cost him. The grounder up the middle that looked like Nunez was their for hits the bag and the ball off of Overbays glove that Cano was definitely their for. Unless his finger gives him issues on his throw day no need to skip his start IMO.

I found it amusing that in Girardi's interview he said Kuroda's finger was fine, but in Kuroda's interview he said "he did not ?NOT feel it" but that it didn't bother him as he pitched. Girardi is so used to not admitting anything...

Girardi wouldn't admit that Kuroda has fingers.

Im not going to call out people, but there are some on this board who thought he was toast for some reason after his first start.

What a performance, his strikeout of Chris Davis in the 7th inning was huge.

He set Davis off perfectly. Davis was totally caught up by the 3-2 pitch.

Their arsenals are different but he reminds me a bit of the last year of Moose. Both really know how to utilize their fastballs and keep the hitters off-balance. And both could throw their breaking stuff for strikes to save their lifes.

I was stunned by how much movement he was getting on his two-seamer. I don't remember ever seeing that much break on it. Was I just missing it before?

Yes. Whenever he dominated last year, his two seamer has had that much movement.

He had 18 ground outs last night. 18! That's insane.

With the groundouts, low pitches per inning, and low strikeout and walk rates yesterday it reminded me of Chien-Ming Wang. Wang had 18 groundouts on July 28, 2006 and both him in that game and Kuroda yesterday had a Game Score of 82.

3 fly outs actually. Another one was a 3B foul out.

I think it was better than Buchholz's. No walks and somehow a lower game score? I don't care about 11K's. Buchholz allowed more baserunners.

Great job by Kuroda last night and he has turned out to be a solid pick-up by the Yankees the past two years. The Oriole bats never had a chance last night.
