Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
If he gets healthy at some point this year, you will see a markedly improved player.
It seems that those nagging little injuries really throw his game off. Maybe he's one of those players that has to be 100% to be effective.
In reality, how often are players during a 162 game season 100%?
He has to learn how to play banged up.

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
At this point in time, with the injuries complicating things, young Joe has no other choice. He has the ability to hold down the fort until Jeter returns.
Nunez will be inserted back into the lineup ASAP, because he has the tools.
What he does with them in the future is up to him.

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
Interesting point.
I'm not a Nix basher by any stretch, Nelson the jury's out, as I'm not too familiar with his play.
But young Joe can't wait to get Nunnie back into the starting lineup and he will start paying dividends that will surpass both Nix and Nelson combined.

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
I hope you are right about Nunez but, notwithstanding his speed, I don't see him adding as much to the overall success of the team as Nix. Once Jeter gets back it becomes elementary in any circumstance but for me, I hope Nunez is not ultimately looked at as the heir apparent at SS.

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
Nix has his game more under control and plays within his capabilities....but speed kills.
Nunez is the starting ss till Jeter gets back.
I also, don't see him as a long term replacement once Jeter retires.
This year he is going to have every chance to prove he is if he stays healthy. Hopefully the Yankees will try and look elsewhere to fill the huge hole at short once Jeter leaves.
There's something about Nunez that.......... the Yankees want to take a good long look at, to see if he's going to explode into a higher than average hitter, base stealer and glove man.

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
He's really bad. It'd be great if people stopped complimenting his "toolset" and potential.

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
As long as he maintains his speed, and swings at strikes the Yanks have a space for him...

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
the Yankees also have a space right now for Vernon Wells and Luis Cruz.
they're quite the home for awful baseball players, which Nunez very much is one of.

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
OK, I think that he's a pretty good hitter even under pressure, meaning in big games or with men on base, or even to get on base while playing catch up.. His fielding is not good because he'll throw the ball away in tight situations.
He does have great speed, so he can pinch run and steal bases or try, so I think that he makes a good backup, and a good guy off the bench.. And I'd like to know is this answer good enough or don't you understand this either??

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread
Nope. He's just bad regardless of when/where he's hitting. Guys with numbers as poor as his in the minors generally don't get called up to the majors, much less actually have success. I don't even know what they see in him, he does nothing well (can't even run without his helmet falling off).

Jeez louise... he plays like a moron. Chris Stewart woulda/coulda/shoulda thrown out a runner attempting to steal -- but Nunez wasn't positioned correctly. He's supposed to be a professional.

I hope this season - and last night in particular - have finally buried the idea that Nunez has potential as a major-league shortstop.
