    Are these posts necessary?

    FYI ...

The fastball hit the top of the [biceps] muscle, where there’s less meat, which likely made it less painful. On a replay it seemed the ball might have hit Nunez in the chest first, but he said it was a straight shot to the arm. He said he actually wished it hit his chest, because he could have stayed in the game that way.

Let's hope he doesn't catch a break. But this time, the diagnosis was "bruised right wrist," and X-rays were negative.

Good news. Never thought I'd say this, but we can't afford to lose him right now. We are literally running out of shortstops.

Atleast we will have to the ASB to see if Nunez can play.

Yikes, I didn't realize Nunie was only posting a 69 OPS+ thus far this season. It's a small sample size but he better step it up now that Jeter is going to be out for a while.

He's missed 2 stretches with pitches off his hand so I'd add that to the SSS disclaimer. I'm not expecting huge things from him offenesively, but I think he can be league average OPS+ with above average base running. If he's not a butcher in the field that's acceptable for an SS.

    Yes we will

I don't know how the Yankees have duped so many of their fans (mainly the ones that call into Fransesca) that he could be a productive major league SS. It's going to be a brutal half-season watching him. He was never projected to be anything and he is far to old to bank on some mythical upside/ceiling he has

Re: 2013 Eduardo Nunez Performance Thread

it's because of how the YES crew talked him up, when it looked like Jeter was beyond forked, and that one series against the Mets a couple years ago, where he went off on a decent size stage.

they and it combined, at just the right time and way, to delude a lot of people into thinking he's more than he is, no matter how much there continues to be that suggests that, at absolute best, he's probably nothing but temporary filler on a decent to good team.

He can run but he can't hit a lick. As long as his defense is decent till Jeter comes back, I guess, who cares. That is if Jeter can ever play SS decently again.

Just made an ESPN Top-Ten. Some arm on that throw to first.
Thank the heavens that slow poke Molina was running to first.

Haha the YES commentators were saying that-- "anyone but Molina would have been safe."

Not to take anything away from Nunez's play, though, which was stellar. If he keeps it up, I'll be happy to eat crow where his defense is concerned.

I care. If he can't hit I rather have a good defensive SS with no bat.

    That's a very enticing offer.
40 pitchers, ever, have an ERA+ of 130 or higher for their career. 15 have 140 or higher. 3 guys have 150 or higher - one is right at 150, the second place guy is at 154, and Mariano Rivera is at 205.
