I credit his performance vs. Verlander today to the fact that his thread has "2013," "Performance" and "Thread" in it.

Did you consider that the thread was created AFTER the performance happened? Do you really think thread titles have retroactive powers? (I'll leave aside the issue whether they have any at all.)

BTW, I think the year does serve a purpose as does the annual renewal of threads. It does make it easier to go back and see what people were saying about a player in a specific season.

longtimeyankeefan stated in the TH Thread that the Yankee TP was started by Nix with a sweet heads up play by stopping what would have been the lead runner at 3rd.

Had him by a mile. Just do it.

In aggregate his numbers are poor, but he has had some big moments on both sides of the ball (the HR against Verlander, the hit last night that led to the tying run against Price, the triple play, good glove work yesterday).

No, the Jawn&Suzy trademark term for Nix is "he's a ballplayer".

Sometimes "he's a baseball player." In case you were unsure.

    And Joe chimes in ...

    • Jayson Nix has a five-game hitting streak. He’s hit in 12 of his past 13 games in which he’s had an at-bat, hitting .340 in that span. “I know we kind of make a joke of it, but he’s a ballplayer,” Girardi said. “That’s what he is. He’s an old-school guy that just finds ways to get the job done.”

    OPS+ = 75 for this guy. (wRC+ = 73)
I'm not saying that he's not a nice fill-in, but good heavens. He's not good.

he's definitely not good, but when the alternative is more Brignac... he certainly looks a lot more tolerable.

OMG - Brignac is not even playing baseball at this point... He's awful.... 4 for 29 and no walks.... Oof.

While I'm not the Nix fan, I do like that he seems to often have good at bats.

I actually like Nix, just not as a starter. He's an ok backup/utility guy, although given the precarious health conditions of Jeter, A-Rod and Youkilis an upgrade would be nice.

To me, backup/util guy should be at a minimum defensively adequate at all positions they support. While Nunez looked better initially this year then last year, that ain't saying much.

Given his stronger baserunning skills (although Nix is no slouch there either, 8 for 8 in SB this year) and some potentially untapped life in his bat (I know, I know) he has the higher upside IMHO but Nix is less likely right now to single-handedly blow a game.

    That's why I was wondering.
Nunnie comes back he's goin' get some playing time but Nix seems to be holding down the job pretty darn well.
Nunez is going to have to impress right out of the box to get more playing time and not blow a game with a scatty play.

Nunez isn't a utility player. He only plays shortstop. As long as Jeter is out, Nunez might be able to hold down the shortstop job, but he can't replace Nix.

I cannot get over how bad Nix is.

    wRC+ = 66
    ISO = .065
    OPS+ = 68

    An he's batting 2nd?
    Flat out grotesque!

He puts the utility in futility.

Adams at least has the excuse of being young and overmatched. Nix is just a terrible hitter.
