doubt it, Wells isnt exactly in his 20s and will require off days. Besides it would be a half year rental for Granderson that wont fetch much on the trading block

I wouldn't trade Curtis Granderson if Wells continues to play well. I'd trade Wells if Wells continues to play well.

He's only paid 2.4M next year and Grandy will be gone, so Wells is much more valuable to us , if he continues to be productive ( big if I know )

But if they can trade him for actual talent, they're improving themselves for next year and perhaps beyond. They've got a ton of money coming off the books after this year, what they don't have is a ton of talent to fill in the gaps.

I suppose one could question whether that really matters to them - in fact, I have. But Granderson's trade value is likely to be much more limited.

I think the Hunter Pence return from last year is a decent gauge. The Phillies got Schierholtz, Tommy Joseph (eh for me, but #2/3 prospect for Giants), and Seth Rosin for Pence last year. Pence was making 10 million and set to make more than that in his final year of arbitration (he ended up with ~14 million). He plays RF, was OPSing .784 at the time of the trade, and has no speed.

Granderson, if he is no better than last year, when he OPS'd .811, played CF, and has 20-25 SB potential for slightly more money, should be able to net a touch more than Pence, especially for a bubble team that desperately needs power. Depending on how the season is going, I might be OK with that return.

Hopefully he's Granderson v.2011 and Wells balls out all year. Then we would have a tough decision to make.

trading either one makes sense only if we're clearly out it. we could play them both have ichiro be the 4th OFer. i think you guys forgot that he kinda sucks right now and perhaps may continue to suck.

wells may play well one season but he's still pretty old. not much trade value. teams may believe that wells likes new york and that's the reason he's playing well

Or maybe the scouts watched him in spring training and noticed his improved bat speed from last year.

Anyone can look good over a week and a half, but maybe, just maybe, Wells wasn't spouting BS about refocusing on hitting to all fields.

No way we get the 2003-2006 Wells, but I don't think that the 2008-2010 version is unachievable.

The best part of his production and what gives me hope that this isn't a complete fluke are the walks.

I agree. His walk rate is impressive and shows that he's not hacking everything.

Cashman looks like a genius so far.

Dude is currently living up to the bad money that the Jays and Angels are paying him, plus what the Yankees are paying him. Love that he is killing the Jays right now.
