Again, sorry to dispute your false terrible claims. I'm not saying that they were great, but they weren't terrible.
    Again, we'll agree to disagree.

Not on Hughes. I have never been impressed by him, and have always thought he was a disaster waiting to happen when he started. I don't care what the sabermetrics say. The home run totals have been obscene. It will be addition by subtraction when he is gone.

boone logan with the assessment of the year:

    • Logan’s assessment of the bullpen: “We suck. We’re scoring a lot of runs. Starters are giving us their best. It’s our job to lock it down. With that kind of lead later in the innings, it’s bulls*** for it to happen, for us to do that.”

I don't care what Heyman is reporting, there is not way the Yankees are going to risk playing Hughes $14. next year. That's 4 times what he would get on the open market.

Particularly in a year where they are going to be pinching every penny. There is no chance they will go near risking having to pay him $14 MM (just the thought of it made me throw up a little), even though I'm sure they would love the pick, in theory.

They should just come to an agreement with Hughes where they give him the QO and he turns it down as a thank you for giving him this many chances to succeed.

But Hughes would be shooting himself in the foot since no team would want to sign him if they have to lose a draft pick for his services.

What if I threaten to shoot him in the foot if he refuses?

    My comment wasn't serious.

Yeah a month ago the QO seemed like a 50/50 proposition but Hughes has pitched every bit as bad the risk of him accepting the offer is just becoming too great.

I had a bad feeling about Boone... I saw the Yanks when they came to play Army at West Point. Boone got lit up... by the cadets. I knew this wasn't going to be a great year for him.

why would you say that... boone has been pretty good this year. he has some untimely HR against that stick out in your mind, but for the most part he has done his job tenfold to how poorly hughes, joba, and cc have done their jobs.

the only time i felt less comfortable than when i watch phil hughes was in 2004 with kevin brown pitching game 7 and then relieved by javier vasquez.

Re: 2013 Phil Hughes Performance Thread

I know Joe does not have many options but really. I have below 0 faith Hughes can give up 5 runs or less in 4-5 innings if he is lucky. Did Joe watch the guy who came in and could not get a red sox out without giving up runs?

I know Huff maybe not be a good option maybe the pressure is what joe is looking at but i would have more faith in going with a guy in the minor leagues the O's have never seen before. Everyone already knows what is going to happen tomorrow night why does joe not see this.

Phil Hughes reminds me of Jeff Weaver. Getting lit up just about every time he takes the mound is like clockwork. How a guy with so much promise turns out to be such a dud is a head scratcher. Hope the team can slug big time tonight.

Number 50 is pretty much a given.

Who was the last guy to hit 50 HRs in a season? Alex?
40 pitchers, ever, have an ERA+ of 130 or higher for their career. 15 have 140 or higher. 3 guys have 150 or higher - one is right at 150, the second place guy is at 154, and Mariano Rivera is at 205.
