Of course he was. But what does that have anything to do with how he's pitching this year?

    Nothing.
It has to do with why he was signed to the original contract. So the Yankees could win a WC and they did.

So now, feel free to throw him under the bus. That's how it rolls on NYYFans.

He's being paid a ton of money and he's pitching terribly. I'm not throwing him under the bus, I'm pointing out facts. Am I wrong here?

Re: CC Sabathia 2013 Performance Thread

Did anyone catch the disappointment on CC's face last night when Chris Stewart grounded out to end the top of the 9th?

With Stewart up and Boone Logan scheduled to hit next, Girardi sent Sabathia into the on-deck circle intending to PH him for Logan if the spot came up.

After Stewart grounded out, YES showed CC and he could not conceal his disappointment in not getting to PH.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

Love CC. But was against giving him the second contract. The first one was perfect because it meant we got the best years and could let him walk. When will baseball realise you shouldn't ever give big contracts to pitchers in their 30s? It never works out. Watch Detroit hate the latest Verlander deal.

This is how Giants fans must've felt regarding Lincecum.
40 pitchers, ever, have an ERA+ of 130 or higher for their career. 15 have 140 or higher. 3 guys have 150 or higher - one is right at 150, the second place guy is at 154, and Mariano Rivera is at 205.

Can Selig help get us out of this contract if things don't improve for him also?

JMHHunch: I'd like to point him here:

    CC -----> http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread...read-Ever-2013

Just as he did last season, we all know how some players can be when it comes to admitting something hurts because they want so badly want to help the team -- especially when it's been so down with all the injuries piling up all year.

Just a hunch, methinks he's trying to play through something.

He had the first RBI by a Yankees pitcher since 2009 when he, Pettitte, and Rivera had 1 RBI each.

Re: CC Sabathia 2013 Performance Thread

How bad has he been lately?

Sabathia has not pitched through the sixth inning in any of his past four starts, but he’s allowed a total of 37 hits in those outings. His ERA is up to 4.78, the highest in the rotation and the second highest on the current staff. Only Joba Chamberlain, who also allowed a run tonight, has a higher season ERA.

You're not allowed to say this unless you can tell us all EXACTLY what the Yankees should have done instead.

In addition you should know that the Yankees have no choice but to give Cano 8-10 years at $250-300 million - there is simply NOTHING else they can possibly do.

900IP/135 ERA+ in the AL East. He just turned 33, guys like that tend to get paid. You're not fooling anyone if you think they should have let him walk right then and there. He's been a train wreck this season, but that extension was far from awful.

Yea, they'll probably hate it halfway through, what did you expect them to do? Let him walk? Big market teams pay to retain their star players. Most of these guys still have a few good years left in the tank after turning 30, anything else after that is a bonus.

Re: CC Sabathia 2013 Performance Thread

At $25 million per year there probably weren't going to be many other suitors, if any, especially for a pitcher that had surgery to repair a meniscus tear and a sh!tload of IP (elbow surgery followed) under his belt. Cashman pretty much bid against himself.

I wish CC would just go away...and take Tex with him while he's at it.

Maybe we could sign Cano and in a few years ban hammer him too.

its like CC has forgotten how to pitch altogether. whats the point of losing weight if you arent going to cover first base either way?
