And percentage points ahead of Baltimore for second place.

The top three teams in the AL East have identical records over the last ten games: 4-6.

Now two games back in the loss column, in both the division and wild card. Slip slidin' away.

every team in the division is at .500 or above. only 1 other division in baseball has more than 2 teams that are above .500 (NL central).

Can we please stick with "simply a bad offense" instead of saying a bad "team?"

Our pitching is very very good, so good we're still in the running for the AL East pennant. There is no reason to get so down on ourselves.

Or more actuarately they have gotten incredible picthing from the bullpen that is keeping them a float.

Kuroda has been stellar but CC/Phelps/Pettitte have all be about league average and Hughes/Nova have been semi-distaters.

Realistically though a team 85 OPS+ isn't going to cut it unless they get historically good pitching, like 39 Yankees good and that's probably not going to happen. Unless they find some bats, either DL guys coming back, guys on the team picking it up, MiLB surprising or getting some one in trade I don't think they'll have the horses to stay in the race all summer.

The Sox +81 run differential is the best in the AL and second in MLB behind the Cardinals. That's not smoke and mirrors. Last year's O's was smoke and mirrors.

The number itself isn't too bad. It's the direction and trend that are distressing. It could go south from here unless some people get better or we get different people.
"Deep to left! Yastrzemski will not get it! It's a home run! A three-run homer by Bucky Dent! And the Yankees now lead by a score of 3-2!" - New York Yankees announcer Bill White (October 2, 1978)

The way I see it, between now and the all star break are crucial. If we get ourselves out of the race by the all star break, management will throw in the towel, and start a youth movement and start trading away stars to save money. If we are in the race, then management may make some short term moves. Which do you prefer?

What stars are we going to trade away? Besides Cano and possibly Granderson if healthy, we don't really have any stars on contracts that people would take.

Perfectly said. I'm not upset about 4 games, that's really nothing at all with half a season left. But this team really took a nose dive to get there.

Homer Bailey throws the first no-hitter in MLB since Homer Bailey last threw a no-hitter.

Three games back in the loss column in the wc. Not bad considering the disastrous month of June.
