Is a sidearming righty really the guy you want to bring in to face Ellsbury?

Not sure where to put this peeve so puttin' it here. Someone in household watches ESPN (or whoever) for the roundup on all the games & scores and, unfortunately I can't always be out of hearing range. Am I the only one who notices the term, "walkoff" crammed into sentences ad nauseaum? It there a contest going on among these sports casters; do they get points for every time they say it or something?

Someone hits a single or homer to win a game, what ever happened to "so & so comes through with the game winner!!"? Instead, they seem to manage to cram this term into their sentences at least once (or twice).

If I'd heard this term say 20 years ago, would have been under the impression that a pinch hitter stepped up to win the game.

(I get the literal meaning of it now, but the repetition is overkill.)

What are you supposed to call it? That's what it's called. A walk off win is any time the home team wins in the 9th or later, that's the accepted term to let people know that the game ended with a run scoring play. It's not like they can use term any other time.

It's like complaining that a home run is called a home run too often.

Yeah I get that that's what it's called, and why. What I wondered is how many times do they need to cram it into a sentence, and if anyone else noticed the overkill (IMO).

I grew up listening to the radio so may be biased, but don't recall hearing anything like this repetition, then -- even with "Home run". It only needs to be said once (maybe twice) regarding a single play, IMO.

Oh well I haven't noticed it being used any more than is appropriate, but I don't spend much time on ESPN so those clowns could certainly be overdoing it. They're annoying for dozens of reasons per minute.

4 and 6 on a recent roadtrip. Somehow it seemed worse than that. We're one game behind in the loss column for the wild card. Gotta stop acting like the season over. Parity is our friend! Ya' gotta believe!

Blessed day off to recover from a hectic weekend.

After yesterday's split doubleheader, we are one game back in the loss column for the WC and two back in the loss column for division leader.

Don't look now but Toronto has won 9 out of their last ten and is at .500. They are going to sneak up on the Yankees

Only a half game out in the WC, but Toronto is still moving up--Rays now in last place.

And Reyes is due back Monday, Lawrie soon after and with guys like Wang and Rogers pitching great there's suddenly a log jam at SP when Morrow and Happ return. You also have Lind hitting out of his mind. Scary team right now. Bullpen is lights out too.
