Yep, he's the anti-Hughes- usually know what to expect when he's on the mound

It's a great sign that he can win w/o his best stuff. Had command troubles early on, bu hung tough

Compare to Hughes who is total hit or miss- if his FB isn't on he gets slaughtered

https://twitter.com/BryanHoch says he has been demoted, put on the disabled list, or traded.

On the DL with a slight forearm strain.

Is this one of those convenient timing to go on the dl to make room on the roster or is he really injured?

I was wondering the same thing. He's looked pretty bad his last two starts so either way he could probably use the rest.

I thought he pitched well last time but ran out of gas that last inning. Some rest might help him though.

Yeah that's true -- he wasn't as bad as his line indicated against MN. The bullpen let 2 inherited runners score.

I thought he pitched especially well.

I think he strained his forearm trying to punch Joba in the face.

Here's the official story, at least. It does seem odd that this was discovered just AFTER Nova had a lights out start ... and Nunez needed to come back to the 25-man.

    http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/...k_nyy&c_id=nyy

On Thursday, right-hander David Phelps pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up four runs in a win over the Twins. On Saturday, the Yankees placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm.

"He actually threw the ball really well," manager Joe Girardi said, "but ... he actually said he was a little sore, but higher [in his arm]. It's kind of strange."

After undergoing an MRI on Friday, Phelps was diagnosed with the strain. The MRI did not reveal any ligament damage.

Phelps will be shut down for 10 days before he can begin throwing again. The team discussed having him skip one start, but with the All-Star break approaching, it was decided it was best to put him on the DL to make sure he is completely healthy.

    Progress:

    http://riveraveblues.com/2013/07/phe...b-start-91343/

In his first minor league rehab game with Double-A Trenton, David Phelps allowed two runs on two hits (one homer) and three walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out six and threw 37 of 61 pitches for strikes (61%). Phelps is currently on the DL with a slight forearm strain, and Brian Cashman has confirmed he won’t automatically re-enter the rotation when healthy. His 30-day rehab window expires on August 22nd, but I doubt Phelps will need that much time.

    So much for Phelps.
