Three options to replace Granderson among the younger crowd.

Re: Replacing Grandy
I'd like to see what Mustelier can do. He put up great numbers in AA and AAA last year albeit as a 28 year old. Can't hurt to give him an extended look in ST.
David Ortiz tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in 2003.

Re: Replacing Grandy
Maybe may be not but Spring has a way of working things out. riviera is an option too and he's not on the 40 man though he may be shot at this point. It is really only April they need to cover so one of the AAA OFers will get a chance to prove he deserves to stick.
Man-bam can be 60 day'd too but I suspect that would only be an absolute last resort the Yanks would do as I'm sure they would much rather have him on the MiLB DL than have him accrue MLB service time on the MLB DL.Baseball is life;
the rest is just details.

Re: Replacing Grandy
Are we allowed to talk about the Alfonso Soriano rumors/speculation or is that a taboo subject?

Re: Replacing Grandy
Trading for Soriano probably wont happen since its only a short term need. But Mustelier I think should be our internal candidate. But realistically what will happen is both Diaz and Rivera will make the team and they'll platoon in LF til Grandy is back.
Personally, I'd invite Damon to camp just to see what he's got left. He's even said he'll accept the DFA once Grandy is back and play for league minimum. Whats to lose? The real reason why the Yankees keep winning is cause the other team can't stop staring at the damn pinstripes

Re: Replacing Grandy
Johnny Damon is washed up, that's what there is to lose. He's not a good fielder anymore.

Re: Replacing Grandy
If Granderson were out for the season Soriano would be a realistic option but Granderson will be out until May, no reason to make a knee jerk decision. What do you do with Soriano when Granderson actually returns? Make him an expensive member of a LH/RH platoon at DH? This probably becomes a more valid option if Hafner gets hurt (or should I say when, unfortunately...I really hope he stays on the field, I've always liked his offensive potential)

Re: Replacing Grandy
For five weeks it would be stupid to trade for someone unless the price is real cheap. Only positive is that the injury happened at the start of spring training so half of the recovery time will be spring training games.

Re: Replacing Grandy
Offensively, he's one year removed from a decent season, and who knows, maybe he'll have a resurgence with a return to the Bronx and the short porch. Put it this way, his 2011 production wasn't ridiculously worse than Granderson's 2012.
As for his defense.....yeah that's a big problem, but with Gardner covering more ground in CF, it might lessen the horror. Plus, Granderson wasn't exactly aces on defense.
By no means am I endorsing us getting Damon....just stating some possibilities if we picked him up on the cheap. Lord knows, we've had worse pick ups.

Re: Replacing Grandy
This talk of Damon is risible.
Anyone who thinks the Yankees should bring him to camp to take time away from viable young options should never ever complain about the Yankees showing preference for over the hill veterans and being too old.
Damon was well over the hill several years ago as an OFer, even in his last two years in pinstripes. He cannot throw a baseball. He no longer moves well. We are not talking about taking bad routes. We are talking about incompetence.
Even if he could show he could hit a little bit, he would not displace Hafner as DH. The Yankees need a competent, every day OFer to replace Granderson. I cannot think of any Yankee "pick up" in the past that would be comparable to picking up Damon for that role.

Re: Replacing Grandy
Since it is only going to be for a short period of time, I hope they give it to a young prospect and see what he can do. I would wait until the last week of spring training before deciding who it's going to be.
