Sure, I'd love to stockpile talent, but after watching what they did with C this year, and knowing that they are going to need to get a new SS and 3B in the next couple of years, and either replace or make Cano their 4th $20 million+ player... I won't be shocked if they don't bring back Gardner unless the deal is really team friendly.

Did we ever hear an explanation as to why Wells batted for Gardner in the seventh inning of today's game? Was it just one of Girardi's eternal matchup things?

Speed player on the wrong side of 30. Try to trade.

I'd try and extend him this offseason. I bet he'd go for something like 4 years and $30 million. I know he just turned 30, but I have pretty good confidence that he can stay at this level through at least age 33, and the team can't really afford to lose him after next year considering the massive issues to deal with at almost every other position.

Re: 2013 Brett Gardner Performance Thread

He is a similar player to Alex Rios- $13mil in 2014 and Michael Bourn- $13.5mil in 2014. Or Coco Crisp- $7mil this year and free agent next. Or Shane Victorino is at $13mil also.

Imagine if he were willing to sign a four year contract he'd ask between $10mil and $13mil per year.

I don't get it -- how does a grade one strain put you out for the season?

Because it takes 2-3 weeks to heal and there is only 16 days left in the season after today.
Fire Cashman, but Hal Steinbrenner is the root of Yankee woes.

Probably at least 2 to 3 weeks to get over a grade 1 strain, so that's the end of the regular season. If the season gets extended a couple of weeks that may be enough to get him back.

This one hurts just as much as the others. He's the leading scorer.

At least they have some options in the OF. Grandy starts every day in CF, Soriano in LF and a platoon of Ichiro/Wells in RF. Not perfect but it could be worse.

No surprise to an already injury-prone season. This sucks.

hate to say it since hes one of my favorites, but with the way this season is going, even he had to wonder at some point, "whens it gonna be my turn?"

The sands of time.... sigh. Hope it isn't the last time we see Brett in a Yankees uniform.
He's got flaws but he is a great individual and leaves a piece of his heart on the field each time he plays.

That can get kind of messy.

gardner is a free agent after next season.
I really thought I played great defense when the ball wasn't hit at me, Alex Rodriguez said.

The front office should look into locking this guy up long term.

His injury showed just how much we need him. If Ichiro can get two, Gardner deserves 3 three.

    Ichiro! shouldn't have gotten two.

Locking Gardner up for three years makes a lot of sense, though. He's a good player. What's unfortunate is that - if the Yankees don't sign Cano, if Rodriguez is suspended for a good chunk of next season, and if Jeter can't be a full-time shortstop - Teixeira and Gardner are their best players. That doesn't bode well.

Will the Yank's lock Gardner up (3-4 years) or use him as trade bait?
