I don't see why everybody is so hard on Ichiro. He's hitting about .265, plays excellent defense, great arm, very good baserunner. What did Y'all expect from him ? He might very well wind up above .280 and not go on the D/L. I'd rather he was one year only but he probably was acquired for next year because he was relatively cheap.

Hitting .280 when you have an OPS under .700 is generally not something to be happy with.

He was never a slugger but gets on base. Right now we need hits. He got on base with a bun and stole 2nd and third with no outs. (should of tried to steal home) It's like an epidemic.

Ichiro probably feels right at home, since the rest of the team is hitting like Seattle usually does.

at least he is fairly cheap. Ichiro has never been the slugger type, more of the guy that beats out ground balls for hits. I consider him to be more of a defensive asset than an offensive one these days since he isn't expected to hit for extreme average anymore.

The Yanks have pretty much got what was expected of him so far, IMO ! He's made some fine plays in the field. I wish he would walk more, though ! He's not really under performing realistic expectations for a 39 year old guy whose game is built on speed first.

This team has cruised through 60 games or so on smoke and mirrors, now the wheels are falling off. Offensively they pretty much suck at every position except 2B, Gardener in CF has been hot, but he is a defensive asset not that good of a hitter, he will regress to the norm. Cano has little help. Toronto will be ahead of them pretty soon.

The overpaid guys on the D/L will be of no help. Tex is back and sucks. A-Rod will suck. Jeter might still be able to hit but his "D" will be awful ,....if he lasts a week before hurting himself again.

The pitching has been fine but it's hard to win with 2 runs of support.

I think the Yanks are ripe for the first no hitter of 2013.

    He has a .304 OBP.

And the oft-cited fact that he's cheap doesn't make him a better player, just a cheaper one. He's a good fourth outfielder, but he's not a good starting right fielder anymore. I wish he were.

What do you expect from a 39 year old Ichiro ? He has lived up to what can be expected of him. Ichiro is not the problem, he's just a fourth outfielder.

Look at the money spent on 3rd base ( 40 million between A-Rod and Youk) and neither one plays.

blame Teix before Ichiro, and a done Jeter...and most of all those that sign these guys.

it is time to either make major moves or give up on the season, this present team will finish 5th in the division.

I'm not blaming anything on him, and I don't expect any more of him than this. I do expect more from a starting right fielder, but you're right, that's not Ichiro!'s fault, it's management's fault.

Jeter led the league in hits last year, but now that he's missed two to three months, he's a bad signing? He earns about half of what ARod makes and about 70% of what Tex makes and is only signed through this season and next. Never minding all of his marketability factors, he hasn't been a bad signing just because he's missing the first half of the season.

I like and respect Jeter, but honestly I think he will never return and play to a high standard.

This team needs to go through a rebuilding phase and dump all these bad contracts and come back in a few years. After 10-15 years of buying free agents you get stuck with an old team with a record payroll that is not very good at all.

Nobody even goes to the home games, I look at the empty seats, not the lies about official attendance.

I expect Cano to leave, he should know the next few years will be bad unless the payroll doubles....not likely !

I expect the front office to throw in the towel and not sign anybody significant and quite possibly finish last in the division or in fourth place.

It's because he is concentrating on getting gifts from the opposing teams instead of putting his focus on pitching.

I'd also think that after he gets these gifts, he feels he can't dominate the hitters. It really is a clear cut case of conflict of interest.

You can't blame the other teams. Kudos to them.

I wonder how Jeter feels thinking about the Yankees paying ARod to sit in the training room until 2017 when they tell him they don't have room to sign him.
    Beware the Bobcat!!!

Nothing wrong with Ichiro ! You got what you paid for there ! and he could surprise.

Youk was kind of a waste and not cheap, Wells and Overbay ..well good for awhile. I like to keep Overbay around when tex falters plus he can now play RF.

The team is shot for awhile here and just needs a few years off to rebuild, mainly due to A-Rod and the idiots that took him back ! ....but there are others !

But did you notice that the guy who did the official honors of presenting Mo with his gift from the Angels (Pujols) was the guy who also made the final out?

I'd say it's pretty obvious that Pujols didn't want to hurt Mo's feelings, after that moment of good will, by causing him to blow the save.

    So it works both ways.

    His ERA is 1.80.
Teams can get all the hits they want as long as that ERA stays below 2.00 no one is going to complain.
