No reason we can't sweep the Astros this week and make it a nice 7 game winning streak, end the month of April 17-9, which I'm pretty sure zero people would've predicted given this lineup.

I've been beating the "sign Casper Wells and DFA Francisco" drum for weeks but at this point I have to wonder if there is simply something we don't know about Wells. He's been released by like 20 different teams already this season.

This is the fifth time the Yankees swept a series of 4 or more games with a save in each game. The previous time was in 2001.

Edit: Yankee pitchers have struck out 13 opponents in three of the last five games and four of the last nine games.

so i hadnt bothered to look up Wells before now, despite all the talk about him recently, but I see why he's a borderline guy. dude struck out 111 times in AAA over just 430 PAs. that's A TON. that said, is he worth a flyer? yes.

Anything less than a sweep of Houston would almost be a disapointment. They might be the worst team in baseball.

It only takes a bad day for our starting pitchers to lose a game. So I never take a sweep for grain, even they face AAA team.

That's being said anything but winning the series is disappointment.

I hope you guys didn't miss the real punch line ...

Girardi, however, lauded third baseman Kevin Youkilis for helping everybody forget that Alex Rodriguez is still on the team.

He's a very good defensive OF who can hit lefties. He's much more valuable than Francisco. When Granderson comes back, Boesch is useless on the club. If they signed Wells, you have five very good defensive OF, 3 lefty, 2 righty.

Yeah his splits against LHP are very respectable: .261/.345/.482. Not an everyday player but certainly a better fit than Francisco.

Boesch has reverse splits. Plus, I think they're going to keep him for 1B for Tex off days.

I agree with the premise that the team seems to like Boesch (right, wrong, or otherwise) but FWIW, C. Wells has better splits against lefties than Boesch does:
    Boesch vs. LHP: .763 OPS
C Wells vs. LHP: .827 OPS

Whatever mojo they have is in no way due to the presence of Ben Francisco. Wells would be an upgrade.

Oh I thought we were comparing Wells to Boesch. Well, yes, Francisco is a waste of roster space.

With the luck the Yankees are having with has-beens, I say put him in the lineup tonight.

With the way the Yankees handle contracts, I'm surprised there wasn't a typo & it's actually a 3-year contract.

Too bad he won't play one game. Then you would have Matsui and Suzuki in the same lineup.

Bet they would love seeing that in Japan.

He is probably too young to crack the lineup.

Nah, it's only one day... with a player option
