That only happens if they play it in the Bronx.

What's our starting pitching looking like against Baltimore now? Do they skip Hughes (after already skipping Nova) and keep CC-Kuroda-Andy on schedule?

That's what I'd do since Hughes seems a bit unready anyway !

has a team ever played 3 times in a day ? In particular in modern times ...like since refrigeration was invented and we have things like aircraft ?

I was joking a tripleheader, can't see that ever happening unless it were a publicity stunt of sorts. You'd sure wear out a pitching staff and 2 catchers.

I would, and I'm not as down on Nova/Hughes as most here. Facts are facts, they are our best 3 SP and would be pitching on normal days rest. I'd take the gift from the baseball gods and run with it.

The real question is what to do if there is a rainout on Fri as it looks like a good possibility.

They should play a day-night doubleheader on Sunday.

    From Wikipedia:
There are three recorded instances of a tripleheader in Major League Baseball, indicating three games between the same two teams on the same day. These occurred between the Brooklyn Bridegrooms and Pittsburgh Innocents on September 1, 1890 (Brooklyn won all three); between the Baltimore Orioles and Louisville Colonels on September 7, 1896 (Baltimore won all three); and between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds on October 2, 1920 (Cincinnati won two of the three). Triple headers are now prohibited under the current collective bargaining agreement, except when the first game is the conclusion of a game suspended from a prior date. This would only happen in the extremely rare case of the only remaining dates between teams being doubleheaders and no single games are left for the suspended game to precede.

Sabathia, Kuroda and Pettitte flew back to NY yesterday in anticipation of a long game delay or postponement. They'll face the Orioles in that order beginning tonight.

Hughes said he's looking forward to the extra rest. He work out of the pen until his next start.

Pretty big series coming up, got our 3 best pitchers going, should get a pretty good indication of the O's this year. We need to keep the baseball away from Chris Davis.

Rain should end by 5 PM. Game will be played as scheduled. Skipping Nova and Hughes not exactly a bad thing.

Looks like Hughes is back on for Saturday and Pettite will have to be skipped for back spasms. And so it goes...

If Rivera doesn't blow the save, it will be the first time since April 28, 2008 that the Yankees had at least 5 runs with at most 6 total bases.

He didn't blow it. The streak is over! Where did you get that from, by the way, i dont remember them talking about it on tv. Also, we appear to have a share of the AL East lead.

Adam Jones' error, that insane triple play, what a game. CC was brilliant tonight as well.

    EvanJ is a savant.

How about that triple play, though? Apparently, the first time in Major League history this particular phone number has been dialed and resulted in three outs: 465-6534.

The last time the Yankees turned a triple play in the Bronx was on June 3,1968.

that triple play was so awesome to see. not just the awesome defense, but seeing their reactions after.

i haven't seen the yanks appear to have that much fun on the field since all those walkoffs in 2009.

    really cool to see.
I really thought I played great defense when the ball wasn't hit at me, Alex Rodriguez said.

Re: 2013 New York Yankees Season Long Discussion Thread

I had a good feeling about this team before the season began. After tonight's game, that feeling is being amplified.

The beginning of the season may be identified with numbers like $92 million (salary on the disabled list) and 4-6-5-6-5-3-4, but the end of the season will be associated with the number 28 on the back of Joe Girardi's jersey - the number of our next World Series championship.
Forgive me for taking the Contrarian view

One of the great things about baseball is that something that neat can happen for the first time. It is even better when your team does it while you are watching in a close game! Many of us will probably not forget that play.

Re: 2013 New York Yankees Season Long Discussion Thread

This team is playing with ultimate passion right now. And watching them is actually FUN. This is not the same team of the last few seasons. Not resigning Martin and Swisher is probably the best thing that could have happened to this club.
